"Haituo Tower" was rebuilt on the basis of the original solar heat collecting experimental tower at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Yanqing Solar Power Research Base. The solar power station project was a key project of the National High-tech Research and Development Program (863 Program) during the 11th Five-Year Plan period. The original tower, with a height of 119.45 meters, a roof section diameter of 20.4 meters, and a diameter of 17.1 meters at its narrowest point, was designed by the China Architecture Design & Research Institute and completed in January 2013. The original tower is located 580 meters away from the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Expressway to the west and 1,200 meters away from the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway. It can also be overlooked from Xiaohaituo Mountain in the Yanqing Zone of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games. As the tallest building and structure in Yanqing, coupled with its unique geographical location, it serves as an Olympic landmark tower conducive to the dissemination of Winter Olympic and ice-snow culture.
On January 25, 2022, the Olympic five-ring logo of the Haituo Tower was installed, increasing its height to 137.6 meters.
