the sheer size and density are impressive

but the absence of parks is depressing

The pictures are nice but noone IMO has yet to take "the perfect picture" of Tokyo showing how superior its density is compared to other cities.

Here`s some more photo material underlining its density.

I can't believe they build highways over the rivers...

what were they going to do, put them through those gridless neighborhoods?

As for Dave's comment, the reason is that it's virtually impossible to get all of Tokyo in one shot. I'm going to have to rent a Cessna next time I go up there.

in the meantime, more amazement:

the density that goes on forever...

Anyone who hasn't seen Chris Yongkind's incredible Tokyo train videos on YouTube should check them out.

I am soooo jealous. I wanna live in a city as dense and exciting as Tokyo but I don't feel like assimilating into a new culture.... Bummer.

If you want to go to a city that will give you a completely unique experience from any American or European city, then you must go to Tokyo. It is truly unique.
