the great unrelenting delusion continues!

you only "proved" two things, jack & shit.

if the chicago spire was a viable project, the land would not be reverting to Related's control as of today.

They could not get a loan put together by today's deadline to pay related, so as per the court approved plan, the land now reverts to Related's control.

Goodbye Chicago Spire. He gone.

Well considering it had started construction once, I thought it was reasonably feasible to predict that they could get it start it again, especially with the growing realestate market in chicago. The days not done yet, but this project was lowered to feasible to horribly unlikely in my mind. Now I know this wont effect the well being of the city, but I loved the design or it and the height was amazing. Chicago will be fine but if there was a place for a mega tall in chicago it was here. Honestly I don't care if the spire was buildt or not, was makes me sad is that now related gets the spot, I'm just worried for what they will put there

Nice title update. Time to send this thread to SSP hell (Canceled archive) where it will burn and suffer with the other failed mutations.

never liked it anyway, the weird undulation had nothing do with the aesthetics of Chicago's towers. Good riddance!

Gosh!!

The odds of Related building something good are probably slim to none. Here's to hoping that they build whatever they plan to build asap. Seeing this hole in the ground just reminds me of this almost decade of bickering back and forth with this mess.

Truly sadden by the update. I think this was going to look magnificent; probably better in real life than on paper.

Deuces.

I really hate to say this, but this wasn't the first cancelled megatall project in Chicago, and I don't think it's the last

I look at the glass as half full, maybe now this makes the Wanda tower more likely. And maybe Wolf Point South gets a little bigger for condos.

There is a possibility someone has a card left to play in this project, you might want to hold the funeral. There is possibly an 11th hour deal in the works or otherwise.

Perhaps this will give other projects "room for growth" but still, something needs to be built here. Would the city allow this started/finished foundation sit empty for many more years to come?

Can this foundation withstand many years of sitting flooded days on end? I'm not construction savy so this is just me speculating.

Or third time is the charm, eventually someone is going to build 2,000 foot or more in Chicago. Just not sure when.

Sad, but not at all surprising. This was one of the projects that got me into RE to begin with, so I feel the need to pay my respects to an old friend. RIP Chicago Spire. Now time to scram from this thread before it goes to absolute shit.

geez that doesn't make much sense, the Chicago spire quickly switched to canceled in the diagrams, even thought a bridge loan can still come in according to the article. yet the old post office redevelopment isn't labeled as canceled, and there was a article to prove that the megatall is not in the plan anymore. get rid of the post office in the diagrams.

Disappointing but not unexpected. At this point, I'm looking forward to moving on. I'm excited to see what Related comes up with for the site. I'm sure it will still be something tall and iconic - it's what the location demands. It's not like they are strangers to megaprojects, they just haven't done one in Chicago yet. Let's see what their plans are first. I know their history in Chicago is sketchy but this location is unique.
