Given its height, will this building have any broadcasting capabilities? I know there isn't any evidence of broadcasting equipment on any of the renderings. Could any such equipment be planned to operate in a concealed area on the roof?

Given it will be an all residential tower, I would highly doubt that. Chicago already has The Sears and John Hancock Center for broadcast antennas. If any other building were to be for brodcasting purposes, it would be Trump Tower or potentially the Waldorf Astoria.

No. . . there has not been any discussion of this since Kehleher has taken over the project. . .

Spire Held as Shelbourne Sells $40M Penthouse

CHICAGO-Construction has been postponed at the 2,000-foot-tall Chicago Spire condo building due to the strains of the economy, though sales of units continue. Ty Warner, CEO and founder of Beanie Baby company, Ty Inc, just closed on the two-floor, 10,292-sf penthouse that had been for sale for $40 million. The tower is Publishing supposed to go up at 400 N. Lake Shore Dr.,but right now, with work halted, all that’s there is a large circular hole for the newly-complete foundation.

Smile tomorrows the day

Hiya fans and friends,

tomorrow will be the big day, at least 4 me. My first trans atlantic flight to my favorite american city. Just hope transfer in Paris/France works out fine as I have read not so good things about that airport. If I make it though I am looking forward to see you this week or weekend

Why? You mean because they are slowing / pausing on the construction?

I wouldn't think so... the project is still underway in the sense that the marketing continues, and it's certainly not "on hold" in the Waterview sense, where there was a dramatic left turn that no one expected. They're simply waiting until favorable conditions appear to proceed or to try again to gain funding. So, I think it's still part of the "under construction" process although not the typical way we're used to seeing it.

I see it has been changed to "pending", which sounds about right. But there is no major construction going on, and probably wont be for the foreseeable future.

OK, yes, I agree that "Pending" was a fine choice of words here.

Sales will spike on penthouse sale.

The marketing department said sales are well north of the 30% figure last reported. The Chicago Spire is a great investment compared to stocks at the moment. Now that the penthouse sale ($40,000,000.00) more than doubled the record spent on a Chicago area home you will see the smart money move into getting a unit in this tower.

With the Irish gov't guaranteeing all of the money in its banks, I'm sure we'll see a huge amount of capital deposited in them. Does anyone think this will have an effect on the financing for the Spire? I assume the financing is being done by an Irish bank, yes?

I'm sure they will take funding from whatever bank will give it to them.

A (more) permanent fence going in around the hole is not a good sign.
