According to the City of Detroit Open Data Portal, there have been 240 homicides (all types) in the city so far this year. That equals a rate of 0.90 homicides / day:

5 - Negligent Homicide / Manslaughter (Involuntary)
222 - Murder / Non-Negligent Manslaughter (Voluntary)
1 - Homicide - Justifiable
12 - Negligent Homicide - Vehicle

Using the same data portal, there were 347 total homicides (all types) in 2020, equating to a slightly higher rate of 0.95 homicides / day:

6 - Negligent Homicide / Manslaughter (Involuntary)
299 - Murder / Non-Negligent Manslaughter (Voluntary)
22 - Homicide - Justifiable
20 - Negligent Homicide - Vehicle

Looking at all types of homicides, if we continue at this pace, 2021 will see slightly fewer homicides than 2020 (328 this year, vs. 347 last year)

Looking at just the Murder / Non-Negligent Manslaughter (Voluntary) category, if we continue at this pace, 2021 will actually see slightly more voluntary murders than 2020 (303, vs 299).

So basically, if my math is right, there's a good chance that 2021 will turn out to be just about as bad as 2020 in Detroit, when it comes to homicides.

New FBI data out today. Just confirming what the group mind here already knows:

Quote:
Murders Spiked in 2020 in Cities Across the United States
The year-to-year increase in murders from 2019 was the largest since national record-keeping began in 1960. But overall, major crimes declined last year.
Neil MacFarquhar | The New York Times
September 27, 2021

The United States experienced its biggest one-year increase on record in murders in 2020, according to new figures released Monday by the F.B.I., with some cities hitting record highs. Although major crimes were down overall, an additional 4,901 murders were committed in 2020 compared with the year before, the largest leap since national records started in 1960. The significant rise in homicides has roughly coincided with the 18 months of the Covid-19 pandemic...

That's interesting. São Paulo state (6.5/100,000) is not that far away from New York. The whole strategy to fight crime, at least for propaganda purposes, was inspired on Giuliani's zero-tolerance policy.

Homicide rates dropped from 40/100,000 in the late 1990's-early 2000's, to those 6-7 since 2018. The state had one of the highest rates in Brazil and now has the lowest.

Well Kalamazoo (County) just eclipsed it's previous-worst for the century (which was 21 homicides in 2020). 2021 now has 22 homicides County-wide, and it's only the start of October. An 18-year-old was gunned down on the city's Southside early Saturday morning. That same night, a 19-year-old was shot in the face in the West Douglas neighborhood. He is in serious condition.

A case from April was added. I sort of disagree with classifying this as a murder. Three people drove to a house to rob it. One of them was shot by the homeowner. That robber died last month. Now the two robbers are being charged with murder. One was arrested recently and the other is still on the run. In Texas, if you're party to a robbery or any criminal activity and one of the people you're with dies in the process, you can be charged with murder even if you didn't kill them.

In some sense, homicide rates are more comparable than murder rates, as whether or not something gets ruled a murder can be very complicated.

Yeah, by my count, we have 64 murders, but I think the homicide number is 68. In Texas, though, if you're the getaway driver in a robbery, and if someone dies in the robbery, even if you didn't get out of the car and were present when the murder happened, you can still be charged with murder here. It just seems a bit odd that we'd consider one person who was trying to rob a home and getting shot by a homeowner an act of justice and personal self defense, but add another person to the robbery and their partner in crime gets a murder charge. In both cases, I think self responsibility, or lack of it, is what got them there. Them dying is just part of the risk they opted for.

The Oregonian newspaper has a feature story on the 69 homicide cases in Portland thus far in 2021:

In Texas, if you're party to a robbery or any criminal activity and one of the people you're with dies in the process, you can be charged with murder even if you didn't kill them.

This is called felony murder. Most states have statutes similar to this.

^ The most astonishing is that they forgot about Detroit in their stats, after all the robocop and ruin brainwashing all over the world.
Either it's been so completely abandoned that there's no one left to murder over there, or it's been annexed by Canada already.
