Now that the picnic tables have been fully incorporated into the massive foundation project, I can at last feel assured that this tower will indeed rise from that huge hole in the ground.

^Awesome! That's an impressive array of concrete delivery and pumping in a very tight area. Did they finish today?

I wonder how thick the foundation ended up being? I read on Wikipedia that Transamerica is 9 feet thick.

"The Salesforce Tower construction design requires that the foundation for the vertical core structure to be placed in one continuous 'monolithic' concrete pour. This has been calculated to be nearly 14,000 cubic yards of concrete with a depth in the core area of 14 ft thick. This will be the second largest continuous placement of concrete in San Francisco since the Pyramid tower in the mid 70's."

What was the biggest since the Pyramid? It was at the very beginning of that decade since it was completed in 1972.

^Good question. Something BART related? Were any of the Embarcadero Center built on a common foundation that may have been poured at once? Or the Spear Towers? Was a footing for the Bay Bridge re-constructed at some time since the 70s? I'm struggling to think of something that big.

Maybe AT&T park,,,but my official guess will be Moscone "For both Moscone North and South, the relationship between the largely underground site and the pressures of the water table called for an unusual approach to excavation and foundation work. Nearly 1.2 million cubic yards of earth were excavated from the two 11-acre blocks, followed by pouring a 7-foot thick steel-reinforced concrete mat built to withstand constant ground water pressure.",,,
https://www.moscone.com/press/dev.html

"Only" 7 feet thick... but the area is much larger than just about all other buildings in SF.

From the CBS newscast:

"By January we'll be above the ground, and by the end of 2016 we'll have topped off at 1,070 feet..."
