From what I've heard the original design called for two spires. Does anyone think the building would have been better with two spires?

I don't recall that, but i like it how it is..just wish it was the original height, but it still makes a significant impact on the skyline

I am not sure about that, but the spire is the only thing I don't like about this building. It looks like an afterthought. I don't think two would have helped.

Donald Trump Talks Blagojevich, Rahm, and Chicago

CF: You have just one building in Chicago. Any plans for anything else here?
DT: I’m thinking about it very much.

CF: What? Where?
DT: We’re looking at doing a couple of things right now in Chicago. If I talk about it, you’re going to write it, and I’ll have 25 people looking at what I’m thinking about. There’s a lot of distress in Chicago. Other people had structures all over the place that never got finished, and this building got completed and people love it.

^^^ Everyone knows Trump is pining after the Spire Site, but I doubt he has the balls to buy out BofA and finish the deal. Have a feeling that he'll end up buying elsewhere and just doing construction from the ground up.

Trump has always wanted to have the tallest building in the world. He knows he can't do that now, and he can't have the tallest in his homecourt NYC. So he goes to other cities to build or potentially build the tallest. New Orleans, Chicago (pre 9/11), Seattle etc. I'm fine with Trump buying the Spire site, as long as the spire gets built.

Everyone gave up on the Spire and I could never figure out why, the design is above everything else. I still think is has merit if someone plays their cards right, whether it's Trump or someone else. The Spire is an opprotunity because so much has already been done on the site.

Trump shouldn't be allowed anywhere near any other site in Chicago.

^^^ I wouldn't say that. Trump Tower turned out pretty nice and would have been better if Daly didn't force a spire and 9/11 didn't happen.

I can't tell you where I've heard it, but a lot of people think he's got interest in the Spire site. I have no idea what he'd do with it, but this story is essentially just confirming rumors that have been around for a while.

It's pretty clear he was jealous of the Spire all along. I'd hope he'd keep Calatrava if he ever got his hands on the site, but honestly who knows what is going on.

This building is beyond beautiful. It seems like it was always there. Now we just need the Spire the cap off the skyline.

I think I must be the only person that doesn't like this building. It just doesn't do it for me, and the spire on top of it cheapens the look. It does not add anything architecturally at all.

Chicago has some beautiful skyscrapers. John Hancock arguably being the best of them. Other than height, Trump does nothing for Chicago.

I agree with you about the spire, but if you see the building in person you will see that it actually relates really well to everything around it (which is odd for a Trump Tower).

I hope for a new 2000ft tower in Chicago.
