That is very interesting. The idea of a "roller rink" in 1886 with a sort of bubble roof seems strangely anachronistic. Was it for roller skating (which I hadn't known was a popular pastime that early) and also for ice skating in winter? Did it double as a community hall? What was it built out of? When did it meet its end? There is a story here.

I was driving down Dublin and I made a note to find some information on Dominion Bridge.

I found some info in the Wikipedia page, but I noticed the list of structures. What was/is the Royal Tower listed?

"Royal Tower" was the name used for the Union Bank Tower at 504 Main Street in its later years.

Is that building in the first pic still standing? Are most of the buildings posted in this thread still standing? I remember visiting Winnipeg and eagerly trying to find that old Hudson's Bay store. I walked around and around and around only to come to the horrific conclusion that it had been destroyed to build something that could easily have been built in a number of other locations.

No, that was the old Winnipeg City Hall. I wish I had seen it.

Oh, it's still there and I'm sure will be for years to come.

Oh do I wish old city hall was resurrected exactly the way it was brick for brick. I know I am dreaming but since the public safety building is going to be vacated maybe its time to bulldoze it and city hall and offices and build it there as a symbolism of strength on how wpg is moving forward in being a more urban city and undoing the wrongs of the past. And a city hall building where everyone can be proud of.

I agree but they just finished building a new state of the art energy efficient heavy duty mechanic shop by the M building. Unless they sell RRC campus to some industry manufacturer. It would be great to see trades school in the exchange.

It would be great if RRC get a hold of the PSB building and bring in some courses that are not involved with the trades like nursing, business admin.

Its a no brainer to having it central as all the buses head downtown and you wouldn't have to worry about transfering to a 26, 28, 19 and 77.

That was the Coca-Cola Building. It's 100 Dagmar at Bannatyne, though.
