If we're gonna get 1 35+ then we need at least 2 others to balance things out. I would love to see the last few large, prime surface lots DT go up as 35+ but I'm probably just dreaming. The best spots for this kind of height IMO would be Place de Ville phase 3 (Kent and Albert), 150 Elgin site (getting awefully stale over there), and Glue Pot Pub lot (Lyon and Albert). There are others (Standard Life III site) but they already have proposals or are too close to Wellington and will likely cast shadows onto Parliament Hill.

You can see it pretty good from Nicholas/417. Fills in a nice gap. Tribeca will probably block it out completely in a couple of years, though.

I'm actually pretty optimistic about Tribeca's presence in the skyline. It will certainly look skinnier than anything else downtown!

I've thought of a last update without the crane and all the windows installed. with now work seems to be concentrating on the inside. It's a night shot though but you can clearly see the interior progess though barely started on the floors above ground. Not only it obscures the bizarre building at Laurier and O'Connor, it also obscure pretty its equally ugly neighbor at 219 Laurier.

i find the marble bases of the building looks absolutely horrible. they stuck a nice glass box on top of a podium that looks like 50's federal architecture.

I dunno... the 50's federal architecture is actually a refreshing change from simple glass box.

it's the juxtaposition that doesn't work for me. the tower and the podium don't look like they are from the same building AT ALL.

Man, that so could have been downtown's new tallest...it's very tastefully done, and I love the hybrid of new design cues, with oldschool ultra-modern...

i feel like they took the worst of 50's and 60's ottawa federal architecture to build the podium, then built a disjointed ugly featureless glass box on top. completely incongruous, and horribly ugly. this building is invisible from all angles...it's just plain boring. ugly and boring.

funny thing you can't see from the distance in the photos, some of the trees on the O'Connor side are growing straight into the marble podium, they'll either have to be pruned agressively or cut, or they'll eventually destroy the façade (in a battle of tree vs. building, bet on tree!)

Yeah I walked by there yesterday. It seems strange they were not moved 10-15 feet to the north to grow where the construction crane had been located.

Same. There are critics of every building design (and affinity for certain designs is very much a personal thing), but I think more are happy than upset with this one.
