I moved to the Portland area from Phoenix a couple months ago. I can’t say enough about this city - I love everything about it so far. Here are some photos. These pics were taken since late July-ish – the ones of Northwest and the Saturday Market are from this past weekend. Most of these areas are ones that have been shown in photo threads here before, but I hope to get to some of the less-often photographed areas soon, too.

I’ll start with downtown…

Cool pics of the city and welcome to Portland. I especially like the first shot of the South Waterfront, its beginning to look like a whole other city with all the shiny condos going up. ;)

Glad you are enjoying yourself so far. Great set of pics!

From one Portlander turned Phoenician and than back to a Portlander, this place just keeps getting better and better.

I can never get enough Portland pics, makes me really want to move there instead of Denver but both are great places! I like the eclectic shops and restaurants, and especially the cool, wet climate that keeps it so green.

Excellent set! Welcome to FiveOhThree. :)

I did a Westside-by-bike thread a few weeks ago, and then I promised an Eastside follow-up...but then it rained. For a couple weeks. (And on beautiful days like this, I'm either at school or just lazy.) Here's to hoping you're better at following through than I am!

^ We'll see when I get to it. I have some of Sellwood that I have taken on lunch breaks (I work in Lake Oswego), but they're not that great. I'll post some more sometime, though.

Thanks for the comments and the welcome, guys.

awesome pics! you did what i wanted to do (move from PHX to portland), but as it turns out, i ended up in fort lauderdale instead.

i've always said portland is the one city i would move to without having paid a visit there beforehand - your pics just reaffirm my position!

thanks!

I love the east side. I will get around to a photo thread of that area sometime.

I think those were taken after the Brewer's Festival in late July, so I was feelin' that liquid courage. ;) Thanks for all the comments everyone!

Thanks for the great shots. They really capture the essence and laid-back, open minded, progressive feel of Portland. Funny, because there seems to be a balance of off-the-wall/funky and modern. That goes for the people as well as the architecture. Makes Portland what it is. And you sure that wasn't Jimi Hendrix's nephew struttin' through Saturday Market?

And speaking of, those Saturday Market pics are really a combo (for those of you who don't know, and probably don't care either) of two Markets. Saturday Market is all hand-made stuff sold by the artisan and is east of the Max tracks as well as under the Burnside Bridge. Ankeny Market is on the west side of the tracks, and is mostly imported goods (though i'm sure there are some hand made items there as well). For a time there was a bit of a war between the two when Ankeny opened up back in the 90's.

May Saturday Market always exist! It just wouldn't be right to not get a Jalicsco's Burrito, grab a chair under the tent, and scarf down while being entertained by musicians that do not (are not allowed to) play covers. Such an original. But hey, just another aspect of what makes Portland the original that it is. (now if it would just quit frikkin' raining!) : )

Again, thanks for the great pics.

^^^ Thanks for breaking down the Saturday market, never new about that. I really need to get up to PDX and see the quirky things like that. I love original stuff that give cities their flair.

Hey if it weren't for the rain everyone would be trying to fucking move to Portland, consider it a blessing. Think how expensive it would be too! Seriously that is why it is less expensive then the coastal CA metros.

It seems like the only reason people move to San Diego is the "weather and beaches" f that, I want to live in a place that is known for being nice because of the city itself... And Portland is in that category for sure.

Yeah, that guy was dressed up as Hendrix. He would call girls "foxy lady" and make other Hendrix references, etc.

Thanks for the info about the two markets. I had no idea!

Portland is the one American city I want to visit the most. Every time I see Portland threads it seems so nice, and clean. However, not in the boring way though. Some towns are clean and nice but in the boring looking suburban way. Portland looks like it is the perfect clean and nice city and still very urban.
