State College

In 1758, the Penn family gained possession of the land surrounding what is now State College, from the King of England. The borough of State College was incorporated in 1896 and today is a Home Rule municipality.

State College and campus have grown side by side since Penn State was founded as the Farmers High School in 1855. Today, the Pennsylvania State University has an enrollment of over 80,000 students at 24 campuses, making it one of the largest and most comprehensive public institutions in the nation. Seventy percent of the borough's residents are Penn State students, many of whom make important contributions to the community.

State College is the largest borough in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the largest municipality in Centre County. The population of the metropolitan area is over 135,000.
