• The Ostankino Tower was the world's tallest free-standing structure at the time it was built.

• Currently under reconstruction after a fire on 27 Aug. 2000. After reconstruction is complete, Ostankino Tele Tower will regain world's tallest free-standing structure title.

• The tower was completed to mark the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution.

• Named after the Ostankino district of Moscow in which it is located.

• Member of "World Federation of Great Towers".
