The east side is the most cohesive one. It gives us that signature tower look. The other sides give us a more...unique...look that I have grown to accept and even embrace. While I am ecstatic about the Republic, and the other similar ones in the mix, I agree whole heartedly in your assessment of this one. Its going to be a formidable presence in the skyline for a long time. We are fortunate to be getting it. I can only hope I'm still around to see it completed. I'm not that old, but I'm not getting any younger.

I keep hoping for some design tweaks to bring the 3 distinct, stacked uses into a more harmonious union. The architects did a pretty damn good job of that on the east side of the building and not so bad on the west, but I'm not enthusiastic about the disjointed look on the south facade. I think it's mostly because of all those balconies; it just looks messy.

For the most part the lower part of this building will end up being obscured from all sides, so this will appear as only being the tall building in skyline photos. From the south, The Republic and whatever monster tower ends up being built at the old post office. From the east, block 71’s current tower and potential future tower which will likely be very tall given the small footprint. To the southwest, the potential IBC owned tower. Although the neighboring parcels to the north and west can’t be redeveloped, a few blocks away in those directions are places where tall towers could bloom. This is simply y’all fuller to me.

Well, our golden age could last much longer. Perhaps this building simply announces our presence onto the big stage.

I believe once you build big like this, it sets a precedent which all other builders will want and need to compete with. Along with The Republic, 6X will probably cause the average height of new buildings to increase.

I can't wait until 2022 or so when these buildings are built and Austin FC is humming along in their new stadium.

1. I'd rather have a subway through the core and dedicated median or single purpose ROW in the suburbs.
2. The old post office block.
3. See the United States in 100 years.
4. I'd rather have a single rail system than multiple.
5. A potential Delta hub in 25+ years.
6. MLB is a possibility, maybe NHL awhile after that. MLS is the sport Austin is getting, and we also have racing events.
7. Texas State University and Southwestern are the universities you should observe for signs of growth if you want a second elite university.
8. Austin in 50 years.
9. There won't be urban ethnic neighborhoods in Austin in the way that people traditionally think. Chinatowns in the south are usually suburban affairs, for instance.

22. growth in industries that are not only tech, legal/government, tourism/hospitality, and music -- financial, manufacturing, and distribution are areas where Austin should expand
23. a Delta hub in an expanded ABIA
24. serious steps to address housing costs
25. an urban park dedicated to food trucks as an Austin-style market
26. a bazaar
27. direct interstate connections to Houston, College Station, and El Paso
28. a thriving African American population, rather than shrinking
29. an entirely new state system university at the Domain

Since we're making wishlists, I'll list some things we have going for us:

1. Buildings are getting taller
2. The South Shore is primed for dense development
3. Waterloo Park will be reopened as a big-time events space
4. Mid-rise development is approaching high-rise levels on the east side
5. The Broodmoor Campus redevelopment will extend large mixed-use buildings beyond The Domain in North Austin and there's a lot of potential for development in this area with many large industrial properties potentially willing to sell to developers
6. McKalla Place stadium will also help invigorate the sleepy section of Burnet between 183 and Braker
7. Highland developing slowly allows for the potential of larger mixed-use buildings to come along as the market intensifies
8. Mueller getting completely fleshed out finally fills in that hole on the east side
9. The Grove will similarly fill in a big hole on the west side

I'll start with better mass transit and I think other things will come if it's done well. But it's also a chicken or the egg things sometimes. Density begs for better mass transit, but sometimes density won't happen without it....


My on-topic thought: This tower is a game changer if it happens as is. I'm excited to see ideas like this that are in the realm of reality rather than simple pictures of what *could* be with nothing to back it up.

I love the NBA more than any other major sport, but sadly I doubt we'll ever get an NBA team. With the Mavs, Rockets, and particularly Spurs, there are just too many teams close to us. Without a major expansion, I can't see us getting one. The prevailing sentiment might just be to move the Spurs arena closer to the north side of SA, so it's only about an hour from Austin. But even then, if I were thinking of Cities to add an NBA team to, Austin would be about 10th in line.... MLB on the other hand is probably the most likely of the 4 major leagues to have a team here.

Love these wish lists.

In addition to those posted mine includes:

1) world class art museum(s)
2) world class performance arts district - seems like maybe the "south shore" would be a good place with Long Center and Zach Theater
3) underground rail system for downtown, elevated everywhere else. I don't think elevated will work downtown particularly because it wouldn't ever be allowed to cross Congress and block views of the Capitol.
4) why stop at 1000 for a supertall...let's do 1200' or better
5) more gay bars haha (can we get an Eagle please)
