Awesome set of photos, Chef!
I'm not sure which is more compelling: the Hennepin Avenue portraits or the May Day shots! Fascinating stuff!!
I can't wait to get back to Mpls for a week in June!

Fantastic, there is something monumental about all those groups of people dressed for the cold weather.

Wow to see so many faces there, what are the lives behind them.

Minneapolis is a fair and typical American city.

Fair size, fair population, fairly safe, fairly dangerous, fairly vibrant, fairly boring

I love this thread. Minneapolis seems more vibrant than I expected. It would be a very nice city to live in if it weren't so cold in the winter.

Strangely enough, somehow, it must be this cool precisely because of their rough winter.
People from warmer places may feel cold sometimes.

Mayday in Minneapolis is a lot of things, but first and foremost it is a great party. I got so many photos from it that I will probably start my next thread with more.

That is one of my favorite shots. It is from the street looking into a Vietnamese restaurant. The fish are a decoration within the restaurant. The part on the right is the reflection of the storefront across the street. I think it works as a realistic abstraction. Usually I am not that good at that kind of shot but sometimes I get lucky.

Parts of downtown Minneapolis are vibrant and parts are not. During the daytime most of the street life is usually on the Nicollet Mall or Hennepin Ave, with Nicollet being more upscale and Hennepin being more downscale. Currently the Nicollet Mall is undergoing reconstruction which is making Hennepin much more lively. I thought this winter would be a good time to focus on it.
