Jets need to add. I suggest Stuart and/or Pavelec.

Fun thread, but I guess we're starting to veer somewhat off the TNS project.

Something has been going on at 335 Donald for months. Not sure if its acutal construction for a tenant or if the owner is just doing work to keep it from falling down.

Last I had heard Dan Wolfrom (Wolfrom Engineering) bought the building to move his company there but his staff balked at moving downtown so its still sitting empty.

I remember that: what a shame.

I am hoping we see the amount of trees, etc as shown in renderings.

So shoring piling complete along the north, east and some of the west edge of site.

The construction fencing looks to be snazzied up as well. They've got the blue wrap all the way around the site now. PCL has big white flags on top of the two storey tall wooden posts they've built. Wasn't quite sure what those were for earlier.
PCL did the same thing with the custom vinyl fence wrap when they were going to work on the now abandoned hotel project at Portage and Main.

I have the overnight shift for the next little bit and with them killing the power to the 3 remaining parking lot lights its hard to really see what is going on with the excavation now.

I wonder if PCL was maybe tying to dress up the project and tie into the theme of entering the portals in the arena with the tall gate number signs as they have all the standard gate signs/ warning signs etc at street level.

So, with the TNS announcement on the horizon are we now able to say there actually is a "Jet effect"?

It is a smaller project but Paris Building was a complete gut which came online after 201 Portage Ave. It is close to fully occupied currently.

It could be interesting if the provincial government takes on some five year leased space to do a full rehab on the very dated looking Norquay building.

Anyone else notice the rumored LC in TNS is about two-four times the size of the grocery store being pitched for SkyCity while being in the middle of a food desert?

Makes sense if they open one in TNS that City Place will loose its small LC outlet. Especially if there is a skywalk connection to TNS.

I don't know if they would close Ellice as there are some of the downtown food places that pick up their orders there and its also open later than City Place. If I recall properly they have at least one stall marked for licensee pickups only.

I would like to think the Cityplace space would not sit vacant with the TNS cluster.

I like the idea of a big flagship store at TNS, although I'm a bit surprised that the LC will be that big... this isn't really the kind of place where people will go to in order to stock up. Downtown LCs like Cityplace and the former Winnipeg Square location have typically been small, compact stores with a basic selection that people tend to carry out with them. You don't see people buying booze by the crate the way you might at a suburban location.

But good luck to MLLC... at least there will initially be some retail flash in this development.

A Liquor Mart megastore and mean while the former eastern bloc countries have completely embraced capitalism and liquor is sold in every grocery store something a socialist Manitoba govt. fears!

The Sun article quotes a source as saying the LC could be "up to 55,000 sq ft". That has to be a typo? Or they're referring to the total amount of retail?
