Cool AUSTIN | 916 Congress | 133 FEET | 6 FLOORS | PROPOSED

I thought we already had a thread on this, but I couldn't find it. Today on the city's website they had a crane permit for this address. The crane height is 170 feet.

New Office Space Coming To 916 Congress Avenue

A site plan application has been filed for 916 Congress Ave. The CBD site used to house popular cafe Little City Coffee before it was sold to the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

The proposed design calls for an additional three stories of office space set back from the historic Congress Ave facade.

It won’t be a large building, parking will be off-site, and the total size of the proposed design is 15,966ft.

Site plan with the elevations - files 010 and 011.

They show the elevator penthouse roof to be 91 feet 11 inches.

That would have been a cool boutique hotel.

There are 5 floors that face Congress, and a 6th one that is on the west side of the building.

I hope to see more like this as well. As with the Aloft a couple blocks south, it's absolutely possible to maintain the historic feel of the buildings facing Congress, abide by the setback for the CVC, and have height. I'm okay with 5/6 floors on this one, but I do suspect we'll see more height as more and more developers follow this game plan along this corridor.

The answer may be found in one of these Historic Landmark Commission 03/27 meeting backup documents. There's more info there than I care to look at. But it seems they are still working on getting approvals.
