Peter Lougheed Dies

Agree or disagree with his politics, I don't think you can underestimate his influence on the province.

Former premier Lougheed dies in hospital

Former Alberta premier Peter Lougheed has died in the hospital that bears his name, sources have told the Herald.

Been following politics since I was a kid. Peter Lougheed and Frank McKenna have been the two politicians that I have always had the most respect for.

Lougheed was also a major contributor to both Albertan and Canadian politics.

May he rest in peace.

The man carried himself well and had his sights set not on an Alberta in 4 or 8 years, but 40 and 80 years.

Lougheed’s mark remains throughout Edmonton

I love that Lougheed offered more money for the Shaw Conference Centre when construction costs spiked, without the Mayor having to beg, plead or blow him. I wish we had another Premier Lougheed now.

Lougheed also helped reserve the land where the Henday would one day be built.

“[He] had the vision to see that they needed this land for tomorrow,” Mayor Stephen Mandel said. “Maybe it should be called ‘Peter Lougheed Way’.”

I totally agree. This would mean a lot more for everyone than Anthony Henday does. All due respect to his legacy.

Ummm, maybe the Lougheed, pronounced correctly. (Unlike the "Low"-heed Highway in the Lower Mainland. LOL)

Perhaps a modest, yet tasteful, statue should be commissioned by someone for the new Royal Alberta Museum? Anyone got that kind of dough?

It's pronounced differently but spelled the same. We could call ours Peter Law-heed (instead of the BC Low-Heed) Trail.
