DuBois (pop. 7,794) is the largest city in Clearfield County (pop. 81,642) and has an urban cluster population of 12,205. Located 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, DuBois is the commercial and logistical hub of a vast swath of north-central Pennsylvania... thanks in part to its location at the intersection of many important highways (I-80, US-219, US-119, US-322).
DuBois (pronounced doo-boys) was laid out in 1872 by lumber magnate and French Huguenot John DuBois. The town would prosper due to lumber and coal extraction and would later develop industrial concerns. Today DuBois hosts a number of powdered metal factories and is a center for professional services, commerce, transportation and health care in the region.
DuBois is home to a Penn State branch campus. There is a massive gated community just a couple miles north of DuBois called Treasure Lake. It has about 4,000 permanent residents along with thousands of part-time residents.
