Hipster Heaven Lawrence, Kansas

This summer I went to geology field camp with University of Kansas and I stayed a couple days in Lawrence before field camp started. I love Lawrence, probably the coolest town Ive ever visited. Its also probably the most liberal town in the U.S. Id surmise and is completed surrounded by one of the most conservative states in the union.

I was so amazed by how many people were walking around downtown. It was almost as packed as a busy street in Chicago yet is a smallish town of 90,o00. I was lucky enough to be there the day of graduation so theres also some graduation shots in here.

When I came back from field camp I stayed up all night going from bar to bar and man, there were some absolutely freakin amazing local bands everywhere. And it was awesome waking up drunk on a park bench like a true hobo, I always wondered what that felt like, well I found out in Lawrence.

This is the oldest building on campus, built I believe in 1860 or so.

The Oread Hotel, recently completed and is just off of campus.

This is one of the best places Ive ever had the honor to eat at, absolutely fantastic food and beer which they brew themselves.

When we came back from field camp and were walking around drunk downtown I actually came across this guy again and we talked for about an hour, he was super chill.

Before graduating they all had to walk through this tall clock tower.

Then I walked through it

The Natural History Museum on campus

The university is located on a very tall hill, which is strange for Kansas, everything else around it is as flat as can be.

The center for all hipster activity in Lawrence is this ironically named coffee shop, go figure.

Some of the scenery right outside of Lawrence.

The view from the Oread Hotels roof.

Lawrence definitely looks like a cool place. I actually applied for a job there back when I was graduating from undergrad at OSU. Didn't get the job, but I suspect it would have been a great place to start out the career.

My memories of Lawrence, KS are of it being obliterated by a Soviet nuclear attack in "The Day After." Great pics, by the way. It's eerily familiar.

Why in the world would the USSR want to blow up Kansas City and Lawrence?

Nice looking place. Better than many pedestrian commercial strips in some bigger cities.

Why does it say bandwidth exceeded? Does that mean I exceeded my bandwidth on skyscraperpage or photobucket?

photobucket, assuming you got the free account. You should either delete some of your old photos, or open a new account and start posting there.

That's funny... I just watched that movie on Friday night for no apparent reason (have the DVD).

Sorry... can't see the photos either Hopefully they'll pop up soon... I've never seen Lawrence before.

San Marcos is similar but Lawrence has a smaller population of non-students. It is definately the jewel of Kansas but to call it the most liberal place in U.S. is a quite a stretch even with the fact that such a large percentage of the place are just partying college kids.
