Avignon, France

Avignon is a city of 91,283 inhbaitants (290 000 in the metro area) located in southern France, more exactly in Provence.
The city is the capital of Vauclause departement.

It is know for its Papal Palace, its famous unfinished bridge (Pont Saint-Bénezet)
But as many of my thread you will not exactly see the monuments.

The walled old inner city is populated by 12,000 inhabitants.
The place is pedestrian friendy but outside it, it is better to not be a pedestrian.

I can never hum that little song about "Sur le pont d'Avignon" again because I didn't see a single bridge.

Nice shots, though.

I keep very good memories of our visit, together with my (pregnant) girlfriend 8 years ago. Very beautiful city and well situated to explore nearby cities and the Provence.
Nice pictures but.... where's the magnificant Palais des Papes and the famous Pont St-Bénezet?

This is the first photo tour I've seen of Avignon.
I would love to visit that area eventually.
Some of my distant ancestors were from around Gard, and according to my elderly aunt, supposedly have roots even farther back to Avignon and to French royalty.

Great pics.

I missed out school-trip to Avignon because of a broken leg. Still mad about it.

I missed it.
Anyway we need to pay for visiting this uncompleted bridge.

Those are amazing pictures of a beautiful city, but what a dreary day. Something about winter with that low sun angel depresses me.
