Dallas after Dark - 78 photographers meetup

The Dallas Digital Photography meetup group got together Saturday; 78 photographers explored downtown at night. One of the best parts was watching people's reaction to seeing so many photographers roaming downtown - I think people got a kick out of it. Anyway, here are some of the images I shot.

We met at Dealy Plaza at 7:30 PM, but I got there early and managed a few photos before sunset.

If you ever wondered where those wet diapers in the fountain come from, well...now you know.

Six hours, 400 photos, and two Mojitos later, back where I started...

I really need to get out night shooting some more. Looks like fun.

A couple of really nice shots. Did you do most of these HDR?

plinko, I haven't used HDR yet, so aside from the sharpen tool in Fireworks, the photos are as I took them. This was the first shoot that I used the manual settings on my camera - changing the F-stop really brought out the color.

Nice pics. I liked that sideways shot of BOA, and the one with the El Camino.

Doesn't that McDonalds sit close to the city's tallest building? Kind of amazing to find such suburban architecture in the middle of the city. I know Houston is worse!

78 photographers, spread across several blocks of downtown attracted allot of attention. People stopped their cars and asked if we were waiting for someone famous - they assumed we were paparacci.

As for security, they weren't much of a problem.

At BOA, the security guards stayed inside, but watched us like a hawk. The property line between BOA and the public sidewalk is clearly defined, so we stayed on our side and all was well.

At Fountain Place, the guard chatted with us for a while. He told us that we couldn't use tripods on the building property, but we were free to roam around with hand-held cameras.

At the Hunt tower, I arrived quite late, but ahead of the others, and the building wasn’t particularly illuminated. The guard came out and asked what we were doing, and when I told her that nearly 80 photographers were coming her way, she immediately spoke to someone on her radio. Five minutes later, the place was illuminated like a Christmas tree, which was cool.

Wow, that's some pretty impressive night photography! Looks like you guys had a good time. That guy with the beer glasses on driving might as well have a bumper sticker begging the police to pull him over!

Kick ass!

Hunt now has my vote for best illuminated building in Dallas. It looks like a giant PC case.
