Im clearing out my laptop of 17k pictures from the past 2 years. I got a new camera and need to dispose of the old ones. they are backed up since I never throw anything away but it makes for a good opportunity to show some places that may not get alot of love.
JERSEY CITY-summer 2008
Jersey City sits directly across the river from Downtown Manhattan. As space in lower Manhattan has gotten tighter, spillover development has happened in downtown Brooklyn which is directly across the East River and here, right across the Hudson River. It has direct access to lower manhattan via the PATH system. jersey City is seperated into 2 major commercial districts. one around the Exchange Place Path station and another around the Newport Path station.
This is the exchange place Path station. its a one stop ride to the World Trade Center across the river
The view across the river to lower Manhattan
30 Hudson AKAGoldman Sachs-tallest building in the state of New Jersey
More of the lower Manhattan view
Looking over the soho, Greenwich village area. the standout tower is Trump Soho
I love towers that are directly on a waterfront.
30 Hudson is a very good looking tower. Its a Pelli Tower and is like a younger smaller cousin to his Union Square tower in Hong Kong
The famous Colgate clock. Doesn't look like much now. they should rehabilitate it and the area around it
More 30 hudson
Great tower, but not perfect. Not a fan of this
She's just under 800 feet. Around the height of Boston's tallest. John Hancock.
light rail station
Its a Trump, but its looks really good from most angles
The new headquarters from Goldman sachs terminates this street. you hardly realize that there is a 2 mile wide river in between
the Holland Tunnel Ventilation tower and Midtown Manhattan in the background
Abandoned park on a pier in Newport
the very long midtown skyline
Newport Center Mall. Like everything else in the area, its built tall
Hoboken
Just north of Jersey City
Small and compact and a very trendy place to live and play. It has direct access to Manhattan via Path. Its also a major commuter rail hub.
Main Transit Center
lackawanna station. Or Hoboken station as everyone calls it
main Hall
with jersey City in background
Downtown manhattan in distance
downtown hoboken
New W Hotel
Back to rail hub
Jersey City across the harbor from the light rail station
Manhattan from same point
From the cliffs, looking over Hoboken over to Manhattan. density
Port Imperial section. Very close to the Lincoln tunnel. waterfront commercial district
That unassuming house must be worth a fortune. sits on a cliff right over the Hudson, directly across from this
Great pictures. I was in Jersey City on Monday, but didn't take any pictures. I think that Jersey City is better than any North Jersey hubs that I have seen, like Newark or Elizabeth or Hackensack. Is Exchange Place the name of the entire neighborhood on the waterfront, or is that just the name of a street or block or something?
Jersey City is looking good. And it's nice to see some ground level streetscape shots of Hoboken! If I were to ever move to the NYC area, Hoboken would be my #2 choice of location to live after Manhattan (though Manhattan is the big #1 by an enormous margin).
Scruffy I hate you, and all those who enjoy living in the NY metro.
Why could I have been born there, or at least have close family member that I could visit as much as I want without having to fork over a fortune for hotel expenses.
Oh god I would love to live in the NYC area at least once. Yep I keep hoping one day before I get too old to enjoy it. Anyway don't get me wrong, I love living in LA, but it sure would be nice to have two great cities to call home. New York in the winter, Los Angeles in the summer.
BTW love the photos, the train station in Hoboken is beautiful.
Those are great pics, especiallly Hoboken. I like your camera, too. I used to live in the Journal Square area of Jersey City (for 8 interminably long years). I don't have fond memories of the place. Most of the city looks nothing like what's pictured here. As a matter of fact, for the most part it has very little to offer. Downtown JC (your pics) is a different story, of course, but it's a small part of the place. Now Hoboken, well, that's like comparing apples and oranges. Hoboken is sweet, unless you're offended by large swarms of yuppies.
The views of Manhattan from Jersey are some of my favorite.
I have to admit, in my years living here I've spent virtually no time on the Jersey side of the Hudson. But there's quite a skyline going up over there. Is the Hudson really 2 miles wide? It doesn't seem so...

these pics are fantastic & brings back memories since I was born in Jersey City and grew up in the cites north of it such as Union City & West New York.
Those are the ones that are higher up on the cliffs over looking the Hudson with fantastic views of Manhattan. I remember having a SE view where we could see the World Trade Center from our second floor apartment.I think this is where my addiction to skyscrapers started!

Thanks all. The area does get overshadowed by everything across the river and its actually very cool on its own right. I definitely plan on going back this summer.

not sure. they seem comparable. For sure Jersey City has far more residential highrises than downtown Brooklyn does. JC's tallest is far larger than Brooklyn's tallest but the upper half of 30 Hudson has been empty for a long time.

That train station in Hoboken looks nice.
Exchange place is the name of the neighborhood and the Path station.
