One of my fav cities in Europe.
The 'La Confluence' project is going to give the city a boost in the future.

The city is just beautiful. I am going to Paris in November for work and I can not wait! It has been 10 years since I have studied French so I am going to have to brush up.

I'd like to spend a day in Lyon sometime. It's supposedly the true center of French cuisine (though in reality, like anywhere, this is regional and is scattered).

Unfortunately I've changed trains at Lyon Part-Dieu a few times but haven't ever left the station to see the city.

Like you said due at France regional diversity it is hard to have a center. Paris could be view as this center, now every major french city have cuisine from around France.
Anyway the cuisine in Lyon is very good, don't miss the famous bouchon Lyonnais.

Going in Lyon you will see how italian immigration influanced this city, there is italian restaurants everywhere more in ratio than in any city where I been outside excepted Nice.
