Trinity, NL - captainDildoAndFriends [93 images]

I wonder if I'll be censored.

I had a chance to spend the weekend on the Bonavista peninsula to visit the Trinity, Bonavista, and Cape Rexton areas and take a short detour to see Dildo, NL. If you're in the neighbourhood you just have to visit. Sort of like a car accident, you just can't help yourself.

The spit of land in Trinity Bay that the town of Trinity stands on is the home of the movie The Shipping News and the TV series Random Passage. For good reason too, this place is spectacular. Trinity is drop dead gorgeous and Bonavista further up the peninsular isn't too shabby either.

You'll see some Dildo, Port Rexton, Trinity and Bonavista as well as Cape Bonavista and some coastline from offshore.

Enjoy.

Great photos. I'm guessing this is in Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada?

Yeah, this format looks awesome. And the pictures are insane! The colors are amazing! What kind of camera do you use?

Phenomenal. I love the lively colors in the face of such a beautiful but unforgiving landscape.

I have a friend who has been obsessed with Dildo, NF. My favorite Canadian placename however, is New Jersey, NB.

Yes, this is indeed Newfoundland and Labrador. I often wonder if Danny Williams (premier) gets tired of having to say Newfoundland and Labrador so many times in his speeches.

@Aleks0o01: I use a Nikon D50 with a filthy CCD and three not-so-clean lenses: 50mm F/1.4; 12-24mm F/4; and a cheapass 28-80mm when I'm a lazy tourist. I should take better care of my equipment or at least pay someone to clean it up. harls will vouch for the D50 being a nice tool to carry around.

@flar: I'll have to work on that. I was hoping you could feel your elbows sticking to the plastic tablecloth.

Great photos! I wanted to open this thread at work when I first saw it, but I decided against it because of the title... Glad I checked back in at home!

Excellent pictures! Normally, I don't like artistic pictures, but even though it seems to me like you were being artistic with your pictures, you did a great job of concentrating on how the place feels.

You have a great talent for photography; you should contact the Ministry of Tourism.

Newfoundland cannot be mistaken for any other place in the world, (not even Nova Scotia), and you captured it well once again.

I can trace some of my ancestry back to Bonavista, so it's cool to see this relatively undiscovered part of North America.

Don't mistake the lack of imagination in my response for lack of success in the execution of that photo
