AUSTIN | The Monarch | 323 FT / 98 M | 29 FLOORS

For some reason we never got a thread for it in this section. It's actually near completion. Anyway, I went out last Sunday to get some pictures of it. Of all the projects going up this is one of my top picks.

The building is named "The Monarch" after the design of the crown which mimics the upward folded butterfly wings. It's appropriate to the Austin area because the Monarch's migratory flight path goes right through Austin on their way to Mexico.

Photos from 2/24.

From the James D. Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge.

A couple more photos that I *thought* I had already posted but didn't. First one was taken March 5 from the entrance to the railroad trestle above Riverside Dr.

The second one was taken March 22 from the 4th floor stairwell of an apartment building on S. Congress.

It's amazing how fast Austin is growing. It is just one of many great cities in Texas.

Austin is finally beginning to look like a city of 700,000. Nice building.

I am really loving the way this building has turned out. It's one of the most interesting buildings to come to Austin.

Ok, so I finally got these edited. Photos are from 4/16 and 4/19.

I like it. I think it's a very elegant way to light this building. I just wish the lights were a little bit brighter. But I love the idea. As jsoto said, the building's crown will also be bathed in flood lighting from the roof. The lights will shine upwards onto the bottom of the crown.

More lights added to the crown...

I did a little video of the building's lights showing how they fade in and out. It's a little dark, but, I hope this helps. Feel free to go to Youtube and comment on it also. Just click on the video and it'll open a new window where you can add a comment.

And some pictures.

The smaller lights were on, but if you weren't at least within a block of the building, you couldn't really tell.

Garage detail.

Plaza/entry area.
