Some streets have the charm of the quiet, old Paris faubourg.

except that isnt suburbia. that is the city of paris

anything outside the CBD is called a "suburb" in europe and australia

refer to them as inner city suburbs though....not inner suburbs

Of course these aren't suburbia, suburbia are in the oulter suburbs.

Officialy this is not the city of Paris it is suburbs.
Unlike many city Paris has not fusioned with its inner suburbs.
So actually the city proper of Paris (2 million inhabitants) represent only the inner city.
It is funny when people said that La Defense is not in Paris but in suburbs, because it is not inside the city proper.
It is like said that Manhattan is the city of New York and Brooklyn, the Bronx and the Queens are suburbs.

This the map of Paris region (Note that the metropolitan area is a bit bigger)

  • Coeur d'agglomeration = core of urban area : it is the real size of Paris it represente Paris and the inner suburbs
  • Agglomeration central = Urban area : outside the city (Paris+inner suburbs) it is suburbia.
  • Autres agglomerations = other urban area most are include in Paris metro area.
  • Espace rural = rural area

The real city of Paris (not official) has 6.718.400 inhabitants in 728 km².

I'd just say that Montrouge is part of the inner suburbs.
Montrouge has its own identity, very different to that of Paris, and, as long as the boulevard périphérique is not covered up, the separation is clearly marked.

Things will probably change in a decade or two.
