The streets in this part of Paris seem very desolate compared with the older parts. It seems so odd from my perspective. We have lots of streets like that in the midwest. Everything here is new and we are trying to create the "old world" pedestrian friendly, bustling streets realizing it was a mistake to not pay attention to making pedestrian friendly architecture and street design. Yet these new parts of Paris are not like that at all. Do you think if this continues that in the future the people of Paris may regret this type of development? I get the feeling its being done because it looks cool, its different, its new.... but in the end will it work as a quality place to live when the newness wears off?

Course I am sure there is a little bit of the... In parts of Europe so much is old that people crave new things. You are surrounded by history and old architecture day after day. Yet here, where I live, everything is new and we crave and relish old architecture. We tore out our liveable walkable inner city and replaced it with shiny new buildings with blank cold walls to the streets, only to find that we had made a terrible mistake.

This district is in construction and the main attractions are not open, the big boulevard is not not finished.
In few years this district will change, like Bercy in the other bank of the Seine.
This district is more pedestrian friendly than most part of Paris.

[Metropolitan]

The neighborhood is'nt really well-known for the moment, and very few shops, boutiques or bars are already located there. As a result, Paris Rive Gauche is not yet a place where people go out. It's predominantly office and hence not much inhabitated.

Now this being said, Minato Ku is right. Devellopments are not yet over there, and many commercial activities should open soon, thus giving a totally different feeling to the district. As it is now, it's true that it's too empty.
