hopefully nobody takes this in a way that i do not intend at all, but before i even thought about the buildings, i was struck by how american the variety of people felt to me...but maybe it isnt that at all, it's a modern global city.

the photographs are great, i really enjoy this series of threads.

I love the area around Les Halles. It's very chintzy but also alive in the kind of dynamic, multicultural way that you don't find in the more effete parts of Paris.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Ethnic diversity isn't just an American trait.

Since the 19th century Paris is a cosmopolite and multicultural city.

I love them all !! Not a single touristic pic. Only real, everyday life shots. Lots of people on the streets ; diversity. In one word : Paris !! 10/10 !!

A-pparently the French vacated Paris, because those people shots looked like the Paramus Mall on a Saturday.

what are the french, then, meant to look like? white men on monochromatic bicycles, wearing sailor shirts and toting warm baguettes? this paris is probably better found in a quebec city t-shirt shop, or at a casino in nevada.

Great shots...such a beautiful city.

One curiosity: Why so little diversity of ages? Is it that these were taken primarily in a youthful tourist area? Or do French people no longer live past age 40? There were some older adults in these pix, but proportionately few -- n'est pas?

This is a popular shopping district that draws young people from across the metropolitan area. (It's located on top of the largest metro and RER interchange in Paris.) There are plenty of other neighbourhoods in Paris that are disproportionately old.

Dude this area of Paris (Les Halles) is similiar to Wicker Park/Bucktown or Lake View. You could make the same assessment about those areas.

Est-ce que le réseau vert est très étendu à travers la ville ou ce n'est uniquement qu'une ou deux rues qui sont pour les piétons/cyclistes ??
