Central Paris : around Avenue de l'Opera

My trip in Central Paris in the CBD near the Opera.

I visited :

The 1st Arrondissement

Land area : 1.83 km² 0.71 sq mi
Population : 16,888
Density : 9,249/km² 23,786 sq mi
The 1st arrondissement is one of the 20 arrondissements of Paris, France. It is the least-populated of the arrondissements
In 1999, the population was 16,888, while it hosted 63,056 jobs, making it one of the most active arrondissements for business after the 2nd, 8th and 9th arrondissements

The 2nd arrondissement

Land area : 0.99 km² 0.38 sq mi
Population : 19,585
Density : 19,743/km² 51,539/sq mi
The 2nd arrondissement, located on the Right Bank, is one of the 20 arrondissements of Paris, France. Along with the 8th, and 9th arrondissement, it hosts an important business center of Paris, which is located around the Opéra. It has the most dense concentration of in business activity in the city. It contains the former Paris stock exchange, a large number of banking headquarters.
As of the last census in 1999, the population was 19,585, while the arrondissement contained 61,672 jobs, and this despite a land area of only 0.992 km², making it the most dense arrondissement in business activity with an average of 62,695 jobs per km²

I love that all of those buildings are not only reasonably attractive looking, but that they also help create some of the best urban density found anywhere in the world. Sweet!

Minato Ku I don't know where I'd be without your updates of Paris on this site. I'm enjoying the tours through the city and suburbs (the first and second arrondissement are beautiful). Keep them coming! Thanks for the excellent pics.

When I was in Europe these green crosses were everywhere. Is this a specific pharmacy that is basically ubiquitous throughout Europe?

No, it's the standard symbol which indicate the presence of any pharmacy. Every pharmacies in France (and in Europe I guess) have these green crosses above their frontdoor. I supposed it was the same in America.

BTW, great tour, minato !

I like this square of Saint Honore It is calm and very plaisant with a lot of diverse restaurants. The glass build was built after the demolished of a horrible multistorey parking lot , now the parking lot is underground.
This modern design building fit very well in these districts where facadism is the king.

Facadism is to built a new building inside an old facade.

I really like the Rue Saint Anne also know at Japantown. You can eat here for less than 6 €uro due at the high numbers of ramen restaurants

You'll see them in France and Spain (and other Southern European countries perhaps), but not in Northern Europe (Netherlands, Germany, UK, Scandinavia).
Don't think you'll see them in Eastern Europe either.

So it's specific for certain Southern European countries to have that sign signify a pharmacy.

As much as I love Tokyo, I cant help but feel like my adopted home really can never stack up to the other mega cities around the world in terms of aesthetic appeal. Paris is the embodiment of street-level beauty; even the seedier, "ugly" areas are beautiful.

God I miss nice stone vernacular!

is there a reason for the high concentration of japanese and korean businesses? do they cater to tourists, students, immigrants... ?
