I agree. Charleston Blvd makes sense for BRT, but not light rail. To me, the best ROWs for light rail in the Vegas Metro are Las Vegas Blvd, Fremont St, Maryland Parkway, and Harmon Ave. And of course, there's always the BNSF freight corridor which could add tracks for commuter rail or future Amtrak/HSR.

It's so frustrating that transportation infrastructure in Las Vegas must wait until a private company deems it viable... The city should have been investing in these solutions decades ago.

I grew up in LV and have since moved to SLC. The light-rail system here is great and there's really no reason Las Vegas couldn't implement a similar system. Given the complete lack of transit infrastructure, downtown probably does make more sense for initial light-rail investment. However, I think light-rail on roads like Charleston is beyond necessary just for the sake of bringing increased density and investment. The amount of high-density, mixed-use projects around light-rail stations in Salt Lake are exploding (thanks to really aggressive and smart planning by UTA) and I wish Las Vegas had plans to do something similar.

Before I left Las Vegas almost 3 years ago, I attended the RTC meetings on the scheduled light rail line from the Airport to downtown & UMC via Maryland. They were super hopeful it would become a reality. And? What happened in a city that's stuck in the 1960's and can't move forward?

You would think that those visiting from other major cities that have light rail trains waiting for them outside their Airports, would scratch their heads in wonder, why there isn't a train from McCarran Airport to the Strip and Fremont? Wouldn't it be terrific if we could get the tourists to do a boycott of Las Vegas, until they put a train from the Airport to downtown? Believe me, if that happened, construction would start tomorrow and not the next day!

I fault Mayor Goodman for part of that failure. In Phoenix, when the light rail expansion to the West was being threatened by a vote, the Blue Mayor of Phoenix went door to door, one event after another, to make sure people voted for the funding for the expansion of the light rail system to the west of Phoenix.

And Mayor Goodman? Does she even care? Or how about a Clark County Commission member having gone to bat for that light rail line!

I've heard it too often on this light rail debates in other cities: Not enough density for a rail line.

What they can't imagine is the construction that would eventually follow at every light rail stop from the Airport to DT.

Gee whiz! Even in Tucson, much, much smaller than Las Vegas, they were able to put in a light rail line/streetcar from the U of A campus to Menlo Park to the west, and it's spawned all kinds of apartment construction along the way.

"Unfortunately, the Southern Nevada Economic Development and Conservation Act (SNEDCA), supported by Nevada’s entire federal delegation, will only make these and other impacts worse by proposing to expand Las Vegas’ growth boundary by 40,000 acres (about the size of Washington, D.C.) to accommodate more than 3 million people by 2060."

The Strip

Anyone else completely unimpressed by the new Boring Company tunnel? I was genuinely excited about this project, thinking it could maybe spur all kinds of new underground transit beneath Vegas - connecting The Strip with Downtown and all the other enclaves throughout the city. Instead what we got was a tunnel with teslas driving through it and some cheesy lights to make it look futuristic. Now i don't want to be too negative, and i think the tunnels themselves can eventually be repurposed to fit full on electric (self driving) buses or even rail down the line...But as it stands, this does nothing to improve the situation.

Really hope the LA-LV rail becomes a reality soon!

The Strip

(Upgraded my phone and was super exited to see the quality of the shots improve tremendously, especially at night and with wide shots.)

Resorts World is almost there!! It's looking better than i anticipated...The new lighting with the led wall at the corner and the red lines along the frontage give it a very cool vibe. I just hope they don't use the LED screens for corny ads like the Treasure Island LED does, and if they do, at least make them artistic (no one wants to see a 500 ft Chase Bank commercial while they're relaxing at the pool).

Was supposed to be The Harmon, a 49-Story Hotel/Condo tower. Structural rebar deficiencies found when it was up to 28-Stories. Ended up being taken down.

No masks needed. They weren't needed before and they aren't needed now. Thanks.

If you've ever gotten cataract surgery, everything appears much brighter, particularly with flurescent lighting. When I go to Wal-Mart, I wear sunglasses anytime of the day!

The inside of Resorts World blew my f***ing mind. Easily the nicest hotel/casino in Las Vegas (as far as the interior goes, and I can’t speak on the rooms or pool area just yet) You can spend hours walking around here and not go bored. I’ll wait a couple weeks til the crowd dies down to go back though. I can only imagine how it’ll be in a few months when it’s 100% complete.

I am very pleased, WayOutWest, to hear your review of this massive project. I was, originally, very excited about the outlandish pagoda theme in previous renderings and was a bit disappointed in the final product. The hotel tower, to me, looks vulgar and cheap in photos and the interior seems--hmm--uninspired? I have obviously not been there in person and can't offer an informed opinion. If you have photos, I hope you will share.

Very pleased to see some progress on the north Strip after years and years of abandonment. Resorts World definitely completes the saga of that site dating as far back as at least 2006. With that project finally completed, now hopefully there will be some progress at its neighbor The Drew, which although unfinished, has been now also been nearly 15 years of waiting for even an end result.

The north Strip sure seems to have a stigma to it, projects get announced, yet are not finished until decades later. At least with Resorts World turning out as well as it did, I will have high hopes for the Drew as well. It should be done right at least giving long of a wait we have all been in for.
