St Vincent is such a beautiful hotel, y'all did a great job. Had a drink with the beverage director the other night in the neighborhood, look forward to going to check it out!

Legislation would give tax break to Harrah's as part of larger deal with casino company

https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_ro...d3f9356eb.html

The Harrah’s casino in New Orleans would get a major tax break under legislation approved by the state Senate on Monday.

House Bill 137 calls for the state to begin receiving a $1.3 million per year payment from Harrah’s in lieu of current law that has the casino company paying state sales, use and occupancy taxes that add up to about $1.6 million per year to two state entities: the Louisiana Stadium and Exhibition District (which oversees the Superdome, among other things) and the Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Convention Center.

The state is apparently moving to cut a deal with Harrah’s just months after the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled in the state’s favor. Federal filings show that Harrah’s owes the state about $43 million in taxes not paid while contesting the law.

The court ruled that Harrah’s owes the back taxes to the state for rooms it comps at its hotel across the street from the casino on Poydras Street but not for rooms it comps at hotels owned by others.

“This ends the lawsuit,” said Sen. Gary Smith, D-Norco, who handled the legislation in the Senate. The sponsor of HB137 is Rep. Royce Duplessis, D-New Orleans. He did not respond to requests for comment on his legislation
.

Maybe this gets construction started?......

I really hope they don't actually get it. This state has to stop whoreing itself out with these god damn stupid tax breaks. They'll still build it without it, because they don't need it.

I think it turned out to be a great hotel for sure. Whats most fun about a lot of these new hotels coming online here, and i biasedly think St Vincent best example so far, is they are completely unique visions and help add to the city. You cant mistake these places for a new hotel in some other city.

I just received this in the mail from Harrahs /Caesars. I fail to see what this tax break is for? They say they are beginning construction this Fall in the NPP letter once the CU modification is approved. Permits have been applied for too. So confused what this is about.

The hotel looks awesome! great work on that project. And totally agree, these unique hotels add a lot to the tourism scene and help attract visitors to the city. As a property owner in the area, i think hotel st. vincent is a great addition to the LGD and will continue the revitalization of lower magazine.

Wow, didn't realize you were involved with Hotel St Vincent, tennis. I guess that explains all the photo updates!

Now that it's open, I've gotta persuade the gf to have our wedding there! (shooting for 2024 probably)

Please do.. the event center can hold up to 250 inside cocktail wise and the prefunction area outdoor courtyard can accommodate many more.

Plaza Tower owner plans to build hotel, luxury apartments, if financing arrives

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...ebf973906.html

The owner of the Plaza Tower, the 45-story eyesore that became a public hazard last month when windblown debris hit a passing cyclist, says he still plans to turn the long-abandoned property into a hotel and luxury apartment complex.

Joe Jaeger, who owns The Jung Hotel on Canal Street and a dozen French Quarter boutique inns, said his plan to rehabilitate the skyscraper includes a 190-room hotel covering the first 17 floors, with about 90 apartments occupying the upper floors, including three floors of penthouses at the top.

The project was well advanced at the start of last year, he said. But the pandemic put it in limbo, and now skyrocketing building materials prices and a stalled hotel financing market are slowing efforts to get it moving.

Still, Jaeger said, despite the jinx that seems to have hung over the building since it was built more than 50 years ago, he sees it as potentially a more modestly-priced version of the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences. That $530 million riverfront project converted the old World Trade Center, which similarly had seemed like a no-hoper after decades of false starts, into a property that is expected to redefine the upper end of the hotel market in New Orleans when it opens in late July.

Any news or updates on the presumably abandoned Drive Shack location? Also I noticed that the city has closed entire streets because of the Plaza Tower. The city really should handle that and any other properties that Jager has in similar condition as blighted and fine him. He should also have to cover any of the costs to the city such as police/fire overtime to close the area.

I am petty and hate him and have been reporting him once a month for demolition by neglect for Plaza and the power plant for the past few years lol.
