Superlo seems most viable for the larger grocery tenant since they're local and employee-owned (to which I think the Stepherson's name should be used instead), though I wouldn't rule out the possibility of an AWG-branded store being considered (i.e., Cash Saver, Apple Market) if they get a franchisee involved. Aldi is also possible as well.

In terms of the boutique grocer, three options come to mind. Either a Sprouts, Fresh Market, or a Trader Joe's seem likely. We'll have to wait and see what happens with those efforts.

Yes the Washington Bottoms site which just went up for sale again... that area is just too large to stay underdeveloped for long. The way Midtown and Downtown have been moving lately, my guess is we'll hear something first quarter of 2020. There's something proposed almost every week in Midtown alone.

I almost forgot about Gordins Butcher Shoppe as a option. Memphis have a decent selection for low cost grocery stores. I dont think they'll have a problem bringing one of the few.

I'll love to see Trader Joe's as the choice. Only because there's one location now. We have two spourts, more than two Fresh Markets. So that will expand their presence. I hope we don't see an over saturation with downtown grocery options. As I remembered South City had a plan already for its mixed-use development (unless this is it) and somewhere else in the South Main area

Local investor proposes $12M redevelopment of prominent Midtown building

Amin Zaki, who has worked on a variety of Midtown multifamily projects, is seeking a $1.9 million PILOT (payment-in-lieu-of-taxes) to redevelop the 1974 building and build small apartment buildings beside it. Including a $3.2 million purchase of the property, Zaki intends to spend $12.4 million on the project, according to his application for the incentive. Between the 52 units being placed in the existing building and the two new buildings, the development would hold 74 apartments.

Welcome & thanks for the link. I haven't even seen those yet. As the footprint grew, the building decreased from 26 stories to 17 last I heard. 9 stories in exchange for saving & incorporating the historic police station was a good deal. I think they reduced room count by 50 as well. Memphis does strive for preservation & adaptive reuse. Now the city needs to be proactive about 100 N. Main & Jefferson Plaza.

Building permits filed for Lake District construction

The nearly $400 million Lake District development off Interstate 40 at Canada Road is about to start coming out of the ground... A $10 million permit for 9845 N. Lake District is for new construction of an 85,000-square-foot in-line retail shell and mixed-use complex of restaurants, according to the filing... Two other permits, each for $1.5 million, also were filed Dec. 9 by Gilad for additional retail shells at the other two sites, 9861 and 3504 N. Lake District.

Youth Villages to hire 200 for expanded Bill’s Place on Bartlett campus

Delta bringing back Salt Lake City nonstop after 5-year absence

A new Salt Lake City nonstop starting next July 6 will be Delta Air Line’s first added destination from Memphis since hub operations ceased in 2013, Memphis International Airport officials say... Airport officials say it’s a popular destination for Memphis travelers and a one-stop connecting point to unserved destinations including Oakland, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle and Portland, on the West Coast, plus Honolulu, London and Paris. The flight will utilize a 132-seat Airbus A319.

Korean conglomerate to buy Mitsubishi plant, create 410 Memphis jobs

The company will pay Mitsubishi $25 million for the 418,826-square-foot building on 73 acres and another $21.5 million for the personal property, according to EDGE Board information released later Friday. Soon after the transaction is finished, Hyosung Heavy Industries will invest $40 million retrofitting and making upgrades at 2865 Riverport for the type of transformers it makes, Hyosung senior vice president Sunghoon Ahn said. But over the next seven years the investment is to grow to $86.9 million total, according to state officials.

EDGE prepares for huge Mississippi River port project to become real

APH has been negotiating with a major ocean carrier firm and developing a self-propelled container ship that can carry 2,500 containers up the Mississippi, which is far more than any current river ship can haul, EDGE vice president Randy Richardson said. EDGE has been talking with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) about locating a huge port facility partially on the site of the old Allen Fossil Plant, which closed in 2018.

Operations center, 350 jobs mark Google's entry into Memphis metro area

Google has plans to open an operations center and create 350 new jobs in northwestern Mississippi, the internet giant announced Thursday. The operations center, which is expected to open in late 2020, will be the company's entry into the Memphis metro area. It will also be the company's first operations center in the U.S. Google has not decided on an exact location for the new facility or if it will erect a new building or lease one already built.

Nucor plans to expand Arkansas plant to compete in new product markets

Nucor Corp. will build a coil-paint line at its Nucor Steel Arkansas plant, which will make that facility the Charlotte-based company’s first that can produce painted steel... Nucor has not disclosed the cost of the latest expansion. The company recently completed a $230 million cold-rolled steel line at the plant in Blytheville, Arkansas, and is currently installing a $240 million galvanizing line. The plant currently has 874 employees and has begun advertising for hiring for the new line.

Fullen Dock’s extensive operations include three floating docks providing continuous service during high and low river conditions, 1,325,000 sq. ft of warehouse storage, over 900,000 sq. ft. of paved outside storage, a Construction and Demolition landfill and 740 acres of property within six miles of Downtown Memphis. In addition, Fullen Dock sells more than one million tons of limestone aggregate annually. Fullen Dock maintains a fleet of 50 trucks and 100 trailers and provides a direct connection to the Canadian National (CN) Railway. The company also performs river fleeting and tug services and has an extensive list of mobile equipment, transloading conveyors, material handlers and a 100-ton capacity cable crane. Earlier this year, Fullen Dock was designated as a Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ).

Enstructure is the parent company of Fullen Dock... Memphis lands top spot on Forbes travel list

2019 was busiest in three decades for planning board

The Board of Adjustment's heavy monthly agendas reflect the rise in development activity in Memphis. The eight-member board heard 134 cases during 2019. This year “was the busiest year for the Board, as measured by cases filed, in 30 years,” Planning Director Josh Whitehead states in his annual, year-end report. He serves as secretary to the Board of Adjustment. The 134 cases were the most since 1989 when the board heard 153 cases.
