Largest cities without multiple interstates

Guess we have to start with New York, right? San Francisco is another.

Canada. Unfortunately.

I've always been so damn jealous of the interstate system. I remember in high school looking on a map of the US just trying to find an intersection on the interstate system that had traffic lights and being amazed to not find any. Our "freeways" just stop and start up again wherever. We have 1 highway that crosses Canada and it's pathetic.

The answer is Austin. 11th largest city, 29th largest metro, Interstate 35, nothing else.

^I-80 terminates at the GWB. And I-78 at the Holland Tunnel (but it does have spurs in the outer boroughs).

Not sure what you mean?
NYC metro has multiple.

If you mean by city, most cities won't have multiple. LA only has 5, 10 in the city.

Yep, one I meant to list. I always thought Houston and Austin should be connected by a legit interstate. It makes a ton of sense.

Fun fact a little out of scope of OP's question: Fresno, CA is the largest city in the US not served by an interstate, just CA-99 running through it.

As big as Phoenix is, it technically only has two interstates (I-10 and I-17), but there's several other freeways that are designated as State or US Routes (51, 60, 101, 143, 202, 303). Somehow 17 is designated an interstate despite not crossing any state borders.

Ditto Tucson, which only has two freeways (I-10 and I-19). I-10 runs mostly through the west and south sides of town and I-19 runs from south of Downtown Tucson to Nogales. Unless international borders count, I-19 doesn't technically cross state borders, either.

This all could change if/when Interstate 11 gets built in Arizona. Nevada finished it's (admittedly small) portion from Vegas to the NV/AZ state line. Apparently Phoenix and Las Vegas are the two largest cities in close(ish?) proximity that aren't connected by an interstate.

And the 405, and the 110, and the 210, and the 105, and the 710 (which is he city limits border, so I'm counting it).

Also, I'm assuming ring freeways (or whatever the hell they're technically called?) count? I'm thinking of 275 in Cincinnati, 270 in Columbus and all the offshoots of the 10 and 5 throughout Southern California.

I-95 and I-87 are both in the Bronx.

I-80 terminates in Teaneck a little before the George Washington Bridge.

I think Anchorage Alaska has three interstates but they don't directly connect to the city, but feed onto a local highway (non interstate). I think...

Yet again, the city is almost 2,000 square miles, so maybe it counts as having 3 interstates.

Honolulu looks like it has one.

How about the US' largest cities without any interstates?

For me, Fresno, CA comes to mind---all freeways through Fresno are state routes, and Fresno proper is about half a million people; Fresno's metro area is under a million people.

Austin immediately came to mind. Not sure why someone mentioned NYC because we’re littered with them, just not running through the heart of Manhattan.

That’s a kinda silly technicality for those two though.

All 4 of the interstates I listed are serving NYC, and with multiple loop routes.

The OP erred big time in suggesting that New York does not have multiple interstates.

Can you clarify? Do you mean downtown areas?
