It's pretty much a given that office buildings will be taller than residential buildings with the same or more floors. The old Humble Building (Exxon) in Houston is 44 floors and 600 feet. One Shell Plaza is 50 floors at 700 feet. The new Texas Tower is 47 floors at 735 feet while the Brava residential tower going up across the street with 46 floors is almost 200 feet shorter (549 ft).

^I live in South Austin about 4 miles south of downtown, and our area is around 200 feet higher than downtown is, so we have a few good skyline spots here and there. I caught it yesterday afternoon with the sun hitting the west facade, and it just pops in the sun. That building stands out anyway because of its size and where it is front and center in downtown, but the design of it really catches the sunlight like no other.

I notice that once projects are announced it seems like the city doesn't waste much time before getting down to business.

I literally told my wife right after reading that, "I'm glad we already bought our house." I've been saying that a lot lately.

The skyline looks great now but will really be cooking once all of these proposals are built!

NOTE: 4th & Brazos-Tower 1 seems to have received a bump from 44/656' to 50/705'.

That makes 9 projects under development over 700'.

Also, two more towers popped up on the radar late last week. We don't know how tall they will be. One of them has the potential to be pretty tall (near the CC). The other is encumbered by a CVC over a chunk of its site (West Sixth area).
