Speaking of stupefying proposals (not even sure if there is a thread for this), an update:

A revised submission is headed to the Planning and Housing Committee in late September for the proposed (massive) First Capital project, which is across the street from Humber Bay’s “Little Miami” (left foreground in the first pic).  Some submission details follow a few reminder renders which show how large Toronto's western cluster may grow.

This is proposed just across the street, north on the former Christie's Bakery site:

THE ONE 309m/85 storeys
Hopefully this hints of the structural steel’s arrival soon. The 4 yellow supports lying on-site will be vertical, presumably to support the 45 degree angled steel from the super columns.

East Harbour: https://eastharbour.ca/

While Toronto's Humber Bay western cluster (and the big First Capital plans discussed above) is heavily weighted towards residential use, eventually an eastern Canary Wharf-scale cluster (mixed-use but weighted to commercial/office sector) will start to rise near the Don River.

Some of this may be buried in this thread (couldn't find it) and no news since since last year's sale of the project from First Gulf to Cadillac Fairview, but here's a reminder of the masterplan-approved project.

East Harbour is the largest commercial project currently planned in Canada and once complete, this 12-million square foot, mix of office, retail, and institutional developments will eventually employ 50,000 workers - aided by the site's planned multi-modal transit hub incorporating potential GO Train/SmartTrack services, TTC light rail transit and the proposed Ontario Line subway.

Wow, so there are two proposed projects both east and west of the central core that could be the size of a mid-sized city skyline on their own. That's just insane. In a good way.

Yeah I'm suprised there isn't a Mississauga Compilation thread (and Vaughn and Markham and...). Maybe someone should start a SUBURBAN TORONTO compilation thread.

Though the built form may be mostly mid-rise, except perhaps tall on the northern/lower Donlands portion as seen in the first pic (thread should have been called Highrise and Development;-)... feeling a little remiss for not providing some updates on a little 880 acre, multi-billion dollar make-over (re-engineering a river and creating new islands and shorelines, new communities and copious parkland) known as The Portlands Redevelopment. But I'm excited to know the first new multi-use bridge fabricated in the Netherlands, arrived in Halifax for its paint job a couple of weeks ago... so here's a few appetizers:

Hey I found the folks who will be assembling the "puzzle pieces" of bridge components shipped from the Netherlands. They will also give the bridge its slick paint job (they have 3 facilities in Dartmouth).

Why not contact Blair Nakatsu (General Manager) and tell him you'd like to visit and document some of the assembly/painting for the first TOWaterfront bridge, for an international forum dedicated to engineering, architecture, transportation and urban planning issues... that ought to do it lol.

I for one would love a sneak peek!! Of course then you have to hitch a ride on the ship transporting the bridge through the St. Lawrence Seaway to The Six ;-)

I'm wondering if M3 at M City in twisty Mississauga will be by far the tallest in any suburban city in North America. Even 30 Hudson in New Jersey is only 238m.

M3 at M City - 260m - 77 storeys

Excavation and shoring of M3 with two more M City twists rising behind (see render below).

I thought Mississauga had it's own thread, no? It's certainly deserving of it's own thread.

These 2 blocks host 4 of the top 10* tallest buildings presently under construction in Canada. (*9 are in Toronto, 1 is in Mississauga).

a) Foreground cranes: Sugar Wharf Phase 1 (230m/70 storeys + 218m/64 storeys)
b)Cranes Behind: Pinnacle One Yonge Street - Phase 1 rising 217m/65 storeys (left of phase 1 is where SkyTower 312.5m will rise)

Razz

CIBC Square 1 - deck for the new park that spans the rail corridor and will connect to the Phase 2 site, on the parking lot behind the historic Dominion Building. Transit buses seen left side of the pic will relocate soon to the new bus terminal in CIBC Phase 1.

someMidTowner

PJ Condos - topping out @ 157m/48 storeys

RedMars

Garrison Point (nearing completion)
As you head west from the downtown core (well before the Humber Bay cluster) you’ll happen upon this packed mini-cluster, wedged in a triangle between 2 rail corridors. From this pov it doesn’t look like there’s room for a sidewalk. There will be a 4 acre wedge-shaped park in front of the buildings and one of the bridges connects south to historic Fort York.

The tallest building is only 35 storeys … methinks this would have been the perfect site for a 150m - 200m point tower (drama views/setting).

someMidTowner

In the aerial render below you can see the lovely pedestrian bridges that span the rail corridors (completed a while ago).

Thanks for all the updates! Toronto has so many amazing projects going on right now!

Too bad those pedestrian bridges at Garrison Point didn't get those beautiful curves.

1. The Williams Tower located in Houston (Galleria District) is the tallest skyscraper in a suburban location in North America since 1983. (275m)

Beautiful building, looks like a crystal and the park-like setting around it is very peaceful, seeing it in person was very memorable, probably because the location is fairly odd for such a tall building, strangely enough it fits.

2. That M3 building planned for Mississauga is absolutely stunning. I love going to Toronto, so many amazing buildings going up everywhere. Love our Canadian metropolis!

Thanks OUIR@random... I've been to 40+ states but missed Texas. Didn't realize Williams was suburban. Cheers.

Is Aquabella maple leaf shaped?! Maldive, thanks for this thread. It is so much better than weeding through the individual Toronto project threads. There is so much going on that it is impossible to get the big picture without staying on top of all of the individual projects.

Technically, the Galleria and Williams Tower are not suburban in the way Mississauga is. They are within the city limits of Houston, but outside of downtown. Williams is very tall for its context, and not far from some small municipalities carved out from Houston's city limits, but it is also relatively central, perhaps comparable to North York.

1. Nonetheless, the Williams Tower is still considered the ultimate skyscraper outside of a downtown setting in North America, but yes it is located within the Houston city limits (Galleria District) so not in a distinct suburban city per se, as Mississauga is.
In any event, it set the standard in the 80's and still the reference to this day as a prime example of "The Skyscraper" of the suburbs. At the time it was the tallest building in the world outside of a downtown setting, that title probably doesn't hold today.

I agree with your point and clarification though.

2. For reference; 99 Hudson in Jersey City is slightly taller than M3 in Missisauga. (270m vs. 260m) I hope the name changes, this striking building deserves a proper name.
