Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The scenery, beaches, woman, ect are too nice. A good place to sip a martini while at the beach.

well, we had some good and spread snowfall this week, with over 140 cities in the 3 southernmost states registering snow. It snows every year in Brazil, but usually restricted to a handful of towns over 800m high in RS and SC states.

I would go with Medellin! Just the right altitude heading towards the Equator! Perhaps a dream city of living without the need for A/C or a heater in your house!

Bogota is too far up there @8600 feet, Quito is too far up there too @9400 feet and Cuenca is too far up there as well in altitude. Banos, in Ecuador, now that's more like it! 15 miles to the Equator in Quito and it can fall to freezing at night at certain times of the year.

Insects? Living in Las Vegas, being too dry for "terrorists" like mosquito's, gnats, woodticks or even flies, I've become spoiled with the luxury of being insect-free! So I would look at that aspect as well!

I heard there was an altitude cutoff line for insects like mosquito's, at a certain altitude line you won't be effected by them. True? I never had to deal with insects in Quito at 9400 feet!

maybe air is too thin for them to fly (the way insects fly is quite different from birds)

or its just that insects do not like much cold. And mountainous areas are ALWAYS below the temperatures insects like.

^many parts of northern canada in summer are brutal due to insects; namely mosquitoes and blackflies. Siberia is similar in this respect.

Like any country, it has its good and bad points. The good: friendly people, great food, lots of highrises (which I'm assuming is positive for people on a skyscraper forum), stunning nature beauty. The bad: crime, corruption, high taxes, mostly ugly streetscapes.

ok, but doesnt these areas in Siberia and Canada get WARMER in summer than some mountainous areas???

La Paz in Bolivia, for example, some areas in it NEVER GET warmer than 60ºF. Cold city eh? I think few places in Canada or Siberia never break the 60ºF.

But it also never gets as cold as cities in Canada, even in winter, because its kind near the equator.

I know nothing about the city so excuse me if I sound foolish, but whenever I see pictures of Rio I only see run down, gritty streetscapes. I don't ever see decent looking downtown areas or neighborhoods. In fact the only nice picture's of Rio that I've seen are the ones that are on the beach. I find that most Latin cities generally give me that impression.

Why has nobody promoted Singapore? It's super tropical and near tons of great destinations. It's safe, secure, albeit a little sterile, but totally comfortable to live in as a base.

No offense, but, none of that really looks nice. The streets with the most tree's look appeasing. The KFC looked like the most inviting building to be honest and there's literally graffiti everywhere.

It seems the best thing going for Rio is the mountains, beaches, nature.

And the prices there are comparable to Manhattan? The weather must be pretty amazing then.
