Well as a 6th generation chicagoan, I'd say chicago has a rather high percentage of native born , but that's probably just my biased eyes deceiving me. Chicago is probably fairly average in this regard.
Doing some rough calculations, if I look at my group of friends/neighbors, I'd say ~50% are city/metro born, another 25% are originally from one of the surrounding Midwest states (WI, MI, IN, IL, IA, MO, OH) and the final 25% are from further afield in the US/international immigrants.
That said, our block has an unusually high number of families with kids the same ages as our kids with parents originally from Bos-Wash, but that's probably just a weird statistical anomaly.
