I don’t think I’ve ever seen much of Kitchener, nice photo! As is the London pic - in that shot I’m getting a lot of Halifax vibes, anyone else?

Farhi owns it all. He also loves parking lots and empty lots.

It is similar to what the Robie and Young Street area of North End Halifax will look like when the Richmond Yards tower is done.

Downtown looks pretty different from this and at street level the two cities are not all that similar. London is flat and very "spacious" in comparison with wider streets and bigger lots. I associate those older beige brick buildings with Ontario; they are rare to nonexistent in NS.

Another somewhat subtle difference is the eras with more construction are different between ON and NS. In Halifax there are comparatively few buildings from around 1880-1910 and 1920-1930 whereas in most of North America these were huge boom periods. And there's a decent sized stock of Georgian era buildings which most NA cities basically don't have.

/\ yes, I should have clarified just the area of Halifax you mentioned, and your explanation is quite evident when you look more closely at the London picture. Great insight and explanation - thank you!

He owns pretty much none of the taller buildings in this pic though. He doesn't really build anything.

Lovelovelooove that Kitchener is developing a distinct skyline.

Can’t wait to see it when I fly into YKF on the 1st! I might have to come up and stay a night in the city during my vacation so I can experience how much has changed.

When were you last in KW? It has changed dramatically in the last ten years, but it still has a long way to go.

I was last in Kitchener-Waterloo around 2012. The intersection of King and Victoria had the Kaufman shoe factory renovated by that point and the UW Pharmacy building had been built, but man, that intersection hardly looks the same.

Impressive.

Lots of new construction and many proposals in the approval stages. The core definitely took a hit from the pandemic but it's starting to pick up a little as more folks move into the new builds and offices start to trickle back. Still needs 5-10 years to really feel alive imo

I was recently driving around Maryhill/Ariss and came upon a great skyline view of KW. I'd need a proper camera to get the shot. Coming in from St Agatha you also get a decent look at the Waterloo skyline from Erb's Road.

Probably the biggest change over the past decade hasn't been to downtown Kitchener but rather its suburbs, especially towards Roseville.

I noticed there's a tall tower in the middle of nowhere north end of Simcoe St, Oshawa under construction.

Downtown Moncton from Jones Lake in the west end of the city.

Sorry for the low res of the image. This is from an NB development related Facebook group.

The two tower cranes are for 20 Record Street (three 15 storey buildings) and the Junction Urban Village, which will consist of about six buildings, all six storeys in height. There are a couple of other downtown cranes not included in the image, and there will soon be another tower crane going up for St. Bernard Square, which will be a new high end 12 storey apartment building.
