Not Canadian, but who cares. Ronaldo scores two goals in his first game back with Man U. Talk about a fairy tale.

Though for Fernandez but she threw everything she had. Raducanu was just on another level.

Looked like a female version of Djokovic with some of those defensive shots.

Even Jesse Lingard scored.

Ronaldo is 36, the same age as Rooney and since they no longer play together Ronaldo hardly seems to have aged.

The Premier League title could be Manchester bound in some form.

That's rather presumptuous. I'm sure if you want to talk about European soccer there will be some takers but this isn't the thread for that. The thread title is what it is for a reason.

Back to Sports in Canadian culture:

In all fairness, Fernandez didn't play as well as she did the previous 4 matches. Her serve let her down and in a close match it only takes 1-3 service issues/game to lose your service game. Shots she was making all week sailed long, wide, or nowhere close to getting over the net. She didn't have the same energy and seemed a step slower. I agree with the comment from Chris Evert that all those long matches might have caught up to her.

That said, one should focus on what an amazing run she had. Beating Osaka, Svitolina, Kerber, and Sabalenka! That would normally win you a tournament. Well done and I hope she can build on this break through when the 2022 season starts. We now have 2 legitimate title contenders on the women's side: Andreescu and Fernandez. Can't complain.

I am hoping Felix and Denis can take the next step on the man side. It's a much more competitive game there (best of 5).

As we saw today, age is starting to catch up to the big 3 with Medvedev routining Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. At least you won't have to go through the 3 greatest tennis players of all-time for much longer to win a Slam.

QC in 2025, and Moncton in 2028.

Congrats Saint John. You deserve it this time.

Have they bid on it since then? I can't find any lists of previous years and the bids for hosting anywhere. Stupid Internet can't answer my random obscure questions with a handy list.

Winnipeg didn't have a WHL team from between 1984 and 2019. Brandon last hosted in 2010.

I totally forgot about that. I think I stopped going to Regina Pat games regularly in 1983.

The new president of the International Ice Hockey Federation is Luc Tardif, a Québécois who has lived in France for a number of years.

This sorta fits the thread title, it's sports and it's Canadian culture, but very cool nonetheless.

I posted this in the CFL thread, but it may be more appropriate here.

City of Hamilton unveils Russ Jackson Football Field in honour of Canadian quarterbacking legend
https://3downnation.com/2021/10/31/c...acking-legend/

It's about damn time! This idea has been brought up for years now, but never any progress. Until now (I think this was supposed to be dedicated a couple of years ago but was delayed for whatever reason, and then probably delayed again due to the pandemic)

Cheers Russ.

Here's the park location. It's only a few years old, and has several sports fields and amenities.

OSU's band ain't called the Best Damn Band in the Land for nothing. Seen them twice. First time in Columbus, where they had the regular band, but also the legacy band where former band members came to play. One band in black while the other is red. There were a few hundred playing.

Second time was in East Lansing during the MSU game. The bands partnered up and did a movie theme, forming shapes and all that like in that video.

I grew up in Brampton. A couple of my teachers talked about Russ Jackson before because he was a principal at a highschool not far down the road (and at two more in Sauga). I was the only kid in the class who knew who he was. This was circa '96. My teachers were happy to talk CFL with a handful of us in the class, but I was the only one that could talk a little about the past. Always love talking sports and hearing about the greats of the past.
