They are next door to each other. This is the block that they are looking at redeveloping:

Hey! That's my old neighborhood you talkin' 'bout! I spent many a Saturday afternoon at the now-demolished Oak Theater across the street when I was a kid (and before it turned to porn).

Not sure if there's a better thread for this topic (if there is, please move this), but with the Infrastructure Bill passing in the House last night it looks like the state of Illinois may be receiving close to $18 billion. According to CNBC, it looks like the money would be allocated to the following:
  • Highways - $9.8 Billion
  • Bridges - $1.4 Billion
  • Public Transit - $4 Billion
  • Water - $1.7 Billion
  • Other - $0.9 Billion

I'm wondering how much of this money will find its way to Chicago. Just curious to hear people's thoughts as well as possible projects that could be funded with the money.

Yes I know. I live right outside that screen shot you posted. Arturo’s building is not included in the lazo properties for sale. You can look up the for sale listing online if you like.

Ok. That's hopefully good news - I was under the impression they were looking to raze the entire corner. My attachment to Arturo's aside, I'm probably in the minority here where it comes to preserving kitschy architecture (yes one storey fast food establishments included.) I thinks it adds to the urban landscape.

The Bridford Foods plant in Fulton Market received demo permits on Friday.

This proposal is five years old, has anyone seen any updated renderings?

EDIT: Looks like Clayco bought the site in February of 2020, so the proposal in Curbed is most likely dead. Not sure what plans are now.

Bridford Foods- In the 5 years since we saw that proposal, the neighborhood has changed drastically. 17 floors, 322 units, 250 parking spots & only 1.5 blocks from Morgan Station is way out of proportion of what's expected to be built under current market conditions.

yeah 250 parking spaces is way too much for a quick walk to a cta station. And I'm sure they can do something more innovative and taller with the design

It's funny how in a matter of a few years 17 stories and 250 parking is now considered sub-par. 400 feet with less than 100 parking is now the new normal in Fulton Market.

Interesting news from RentCafe as the South Loop was ranked 8th in the country on their Top 20 List for Production of New Apartments.

This Trib article from back in July said that Clayco was (and perhaps still is?) pitching the Bridgford site to Chase Bank for a new office HQ.

Interesting. But one question, what size tower would Chase and Clayco plan for in Fulton Market exactly? If they are looking to recreate the type of building BoA and BMO built for their Chicago HQs, then that would be one hell of an upsize for the neighborhood.

That would be alarmingly bad if there was substance to a chase hq in the WL. Ideally they’d be putting up something equally as large /tall as their current office on some stubbornly vacant site in the loop or West loop gate, or whatever it’s called.

If Chase did move to that site, I assume it'd be a ~500k SF tower similar in scale to 333 Green St, with Chase being the only tenant. The BMO and BofA towers are much bigger but the banks only take up about a third of the space.

I can't imagine Chase would want to go the West Loop, rather than a signature tower on Wacker or the river. It's just not the right environment for them.
