Phase 2 of Kuantan Waterfront Resort City (KWRC)

Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR (June 6): Bina Puri Holdings Bhd is looking to launch the next phase of two projects in the state of Pahang, namely the Phase 2 of Kuantan Waterfront Resort City (KWRC), an approximately 500-acre integrated development near the Pahang state capital and the Phase 3 of The Valley @ Bentong, a farmland and homestead development.

At KWRC, there will be a high-rise development with serviced apartments and shoplots, which will be soft-launched in the fourth quarter of 2021. It has a gross development value of RM200 million and construction will commence in January next year. The selling price is estimated to be at RM650 to RM750 per square foot (psf) as built-up ranges from 500 square feet to 1,000 square feet for the typical units. Bina Puri's group executive director Datuk Matthew Tee believes that Kuantan, although without many high-rise developments, will grow to embrace high-rise living considering how Phase 1 of KWRC, also a high-rise development, sold well and mostly acquired by locals.

In a statement today, PPC chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said it had invited qualified companies to develop the old warehouses and the Tanjung City Marina land section through a request for proposal which was opened from Nov 16, 2020 to March 15, 2021.

“Various proposals had been received and after going through several processes, we approved MPDT Capital for a lease period of 30 years with the option to extend for 15 years.

“The project is expected to take between 18 and 24 months,” he said.

Tan also said among the attractions to be developed in the 24,946 square metre area are restaurants including an open food court, various sports and recreational facilities, and a simulator training centre.

Sunway Medical Centre invests over a quarter million ringgit in robots during pandemic
Cheryl Poo August 11, 2021 15:18 pm +08

The over RM250,000 investment for the four advanced robot units known as BellaBot(s) serves as Sunway Medical Centre’s initial investment in helping its staff to focus on patient care, provide surge capacity during peak demand and improve overall operational efficiency.

Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 11): Sunway Bhd's healthcare unit Sunway Medical Centre has invested over RM250,000 to incorporate four units of autonomous robots in its hospital operations during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The amount for the advanced robot units known as BellaBot(s) serves as the medical centre’s initial investment in helping its staff to focus on patient care, provide surge capacity during peak demand and improve overall operational efficiency, its chief executive officer (CEO) Bryan Lin said at a virtual press conference today.

A live video presentation demonstrated that BellaBot, the first of its kind in the hospital’s operations, can assist in delivering food three times a day to young patients and their caregivers during lunch, tea and dinner hours. With four stacked shelves for meal trays and customisable delivery functions, the machine’s navigation system allows for safe navigation around the wards.

“For now, we have introduced the BellaBot to the paediatric wards. They will be rolled out to the adult wards eventually, as well as be used for the delivery of goods such as medication supply to the Covid-19-[infected] wards so as to reduce transmissions [to human employees].

“The robots will also be used as lobby ambassadors to greet patients and bring them from point to point in the expanding hospital. The robots are fluent in English and Mandarin, with the potential for more languages in the future,” Lin said.

The introduction of BellaBot comes after Sunway Medical Centre bagged Frost & Sullivan’s 2021 Malaysia Smart Hospital Company of the Year title at its Asia-Pacific Best Practices Awards in June for innovative and purposeful use of smart hospital technology.

Malaysia's first locally-produced locomotive by SMH Rail ready for export
By Farah Adilla - August 20, 2021 @ 6:07pm

SMH Rail chairman and managing director Datuk PK Nara said the first batch of the locomotives would be delivered to Tanzania Railways Corporation which had placed the order based on funding support from the World Bank.
Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR: SMH Rail Sdn Bhd has today unveiled its newly-manufactured locomotives and is poised to ship the first batch to its maiden export market soon.

The "H10 Series" of locomotives was built with advanced technology to reduce emission with "Towards Green Mobility" tagline, said SMH Rail, a rolling stock manufacturer and maintenance service provider.

SMH Rail chairman and managing director Datuk PK Nara said the first batch of the locomotives would be delivered to Tanzania Railways Corporation which had placed the order based on funding support from the World Bank.

"I am confident that these locomotives will bring enormous economic benefits to the African rail cargo industry.

"It is efficient in bridging connectivity, increases supply-chain access, accelerates industrialisation and promotes cross-border trade," Nara said at the virtual launch today.

He added that with more than 60 per cent of its content locally-manufactured in Malaysia, the H10 Series marked a cornerstone achievement of SMH Rail in the global rail industry.

SMH Rail said the H10 Series locomotives provided an intrinsic value to the environment and railway ecosystem together with innovation in design engineering that will fuel green operations.

"The H10 Series locomotives that were manufactured locally not only showcases Malaysia's expertise in rolling stock market but has also earned recognition by The Malaysian Book of Records as the 'First Made in Malaysia Locomotive' for the export market."

The company added that the H10 Series can potentially replace 100 cargo trucks, reduce carbon emissions by up to 75 per cent, lower highway congestion, and was four times more fuel-efficient than road freight transport on average.

"Its practical design ensures high reliability and availability for improved operational efficiency, increased haulage capacity and reduction of maintenance challenges, resulting in lower overall life cycle costs."

SMH Rail said with rapid growth in transport solutions, the H10 Series locomotives would enable a vision towards the future that is clean, fast and green.

The company added that it would continue to leverage opportunities and partnerships to develop its national and global footprint.

Perlis MB says 30 companies keen to invest in Chuping Valley Industrial Area
Bernama August 25, 2021 17:06 pm +08

Quote:
KANGAR (Aug 25): A total of 30 companies had expressed interest to invest in the Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA) as at July this year, said Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

He said out of the 30 companies, five were committed and had received policy approval through the State Executive Council to implement investment projects in the CVIA.

“The companies that have been approved are Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) with an estimated investment of RM54 million, Biotech Birdnest Processing Sdn Bhd with an estimated investment of RM13 million, Next Generation Oil Sdn Bhd with about RM2 billion, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Asian Sustainable Transportation Institute with RM197 million and the Perlis Inland Port with about RM1.8 billion,” he said in the Perlis State Legislative Assembly here today.

2021 marks a century since the founding of China’s Communist Party, and the country has widely celebrated its remarkable recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and rapid transformation into a global superpower. China was the first country to overcome the pandemic and restart its economy. It was also the only major economy in the world that experienced growth in 2020.

Azlan said this in response to an oral question posed by Tambun Tulang assemblyman Datuk Ismail Kassim who wanted to know how many investors had expressed interest in investing in the CVIA and the largest investment amount that could increase the state’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The menteri besar also said the remaining investors were companies interested in solar hubs or solar farms on state government land.

He said the government is of the view that investment in solar farms does not have a high impact on the state but it uses large parcels of land.

“The state government has approved in principle the establishment of a power generation project near the CVIA in the Padang Besar area, which is expected to generate 1,000 to 1,500 megawatts of electricity with an investment of between RM4 billion and RM6 billion,” Azlan, who is also the Bintong assemblyman, said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Clean energy specialist Solarvest Holdings Bhd has secured a large-scale solar project worth RM175 million under the LSS@Mentari programme.

Awarded by Classic Solar Farm Sdn Bhd, the new contract will see Solarvest building the largest LSS plant in Perlis.

Solarvest said it would undertake the main engineering, procurement, construction, and commission (EPCC) works for the 50 megawatts (MW) solar farm in Chuping.

The latest contract increases Solarvest's EPCC orders from the LSS@Mentari programme to about RM371 million.

Group chief executive officer Davis Chong Chun Shiong said the project's clean energy generation would offset about 78,450 tonnes of carbon per year upon commencement.

"We are thrilled to be entrusted to build yet another landmark project and help unlock clean energy from the Northern region. With this project win, our unbilled orderbook has increased to RM583 million, probably one of the largest solar EPCC orderbook in Malaysia today," he said in a statement today.

Tech: RM508 mil investment in Penang by South Korea’s Simmtech to give local equipment players a boost
Liew Jia Teng The Edge Malaysia September 08, 2021 16:00 pm +08

Quote:
SOUTH Korea-based semiconductor company Simmtech Holdings Co Ltd’s decision to make a greenfield investment in Penang bodes well for Malaysian equipment vendors and automation houses.

On July 30, Simmtech — one of the world’s largest players in printed circuit board (PCB) and packaging substrate for the semiconductor industry — announced that it had chosen an 18-acre site at Batu Kawan Industrial Park for its first large-scale factory in Southeast Asia.

According to its managing director for Southeast Asia, Jeffery Chun, the group intends to localise its supply chain by buying local equipment and using locally sourced materials.

“The construction of our Penang plant just started a couple of months ago, so we have yet to establish a local supply chain here. But looking at our past experiences in China and Japan, it is in our interest to work with local partners and develop a local supply chain for better operational efficiency. We can’t wait to find out more about which local suppliers and what equipment are available in Malaysia,” he tells The Edge in an exclusive interview.

“There will be a lot of automation in our manufacturing lines. Penang is especially well developed in the area of automation. The state has quite a number of competitive local equipment suppliers specialising in automation. We are looking forward to engaging these local suppliers and adding value to our processes with more efficient equipment and automation solutions,” he says.

Phase 1 of the project will cost US$120 million (RM508 million), including land acquisition, construction of a factory and the purchase of equipment, with operation slated to commence by the first half of next year. The new facility is expected to create 1,200 high-value jobs in engineering, manufacturing and quality management by the first half of 2023.

Chun says Simmtech is well aligned with the Malaysian government’s push for automation in the manufacturing industry.

“Looking at our customers in Penang, I am sure there are valid reasons why they are expanding in Malaysia. Like them, we also are confident of growing together with our local partners. For the equipment vendor’s portion, we have more than 50% localisation in China and Japan. We expect the same in Penang,” he adds.

Chun acknowledges that Simmtech needs to source only specialty and patented equipment from overseas suppliers. Other than that, the group hopes to localise them as much as it can.

“To us, the higher the localisation, the better. Penang is well known for having semiconductor equipment manufacturers, which are also expanding their operations in Batu Kawan. I am sure there will be more resources available to us in the future.

“I can’t give you the exact figure, but I would say a significant amount of our planned investments has been allocated for buying equipment,” he says.

Apart from equipment, Simmtech is looking to source direct and indirect materials such as chemicals locally.
