Seems to be moving at a fairly decent clip...one floor +/- a week? Plus, these are tall floors...

Yeah, it's moving pretty fast now, and those floors are huge. It's making giant leaps into the sky.

Who’s designing NYC’s skyline?

By Kathryn Brenzel
Research by Ashley McHugh-Chiappone
March 01, 2018

Quote:
The battle for designing One Vanderbilt came down to three distinguished architecture firms, all with impressive international portfolios — and chops building complex office towers.

The developer, SL Green Realty, considered designs by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill for the $3.2 billion tower. Ultimately, the real estate investment trust went with KPF, whose glassy, tapering design is reminiscent of Chicago’s famed Willis Tower.

The runners-up have differing takes on what drove SL Green’s decision.

“[KPF] had a long relationship with Marc Holliday,” said T.J. Gottesdiener, managing partner at SOM, referring to the company’s CEO. “I thought we did a fabulous job, but it was a question of [where his] comfort level was.”

Always love the pedestrian activity around this tower. The City must go on, even as it rises above.

Because of the location its hard not to notice the massiveness of this building. Unlike with the Hudson Yards which is on the Far Westside, at this busy location it just catches everyone's attention. Even the typical pedestrian or tourist who may not be into following these types of developments can't help but take notice the sheer size.

In addition to 270 Park, NY Times is reporting four additional Grand Central-area tower sites are currently undergoing development plans: Grand Hyatt, Pfizer HQ site, Roosevelt Hotel and MTA HQ site.

Barring some deep global recession, this neighborhood is gonna look incredible 10 years from now. You could easily have a half-dozen new supertalls.

All these new towers in NYC are starting to make the ESB look a bit small.

What a nice improvement that would be - The Hyatt is such a dreary, depressing turd.

This isn't even a complete list. Lots of developer interest in East Midtown right now.

Yeah, I have no idea what they were thinking. "Glassy" and "tapering" are not words I would ever use to describe Sears Tower.

Also, a bit weird to choose that as a reference when the other firm in contention was actually SOM...
