12 year old boy in Winnipeg was stabbed and died yesterday. I think the city is at 18 for 2021. There have been 11 homicides since May 19 alone. It looks like the city will have 40+ murders for the 3rd consecutive year if things continue as they are which appears almost certain.
12 years old?
What the hell is wrong with people. What issue could a 12 year old boy have that warrants the involvement of a knife or gun in the first place? Everything about it is just so wrong.

Ottawa at 11 now I think. Two people were stabbed this evening about 2 blocks south of Parliament straight down the street that leads up to it (Metcalfe). One has died.

It's not always clear what they mean by that. Was he just visiting or had he moved to Ottawa some time ago?
This incident strikes me as unusual. The location, the victim doesn’t quite match the profile of the usual homicide victims in the city, etc. I am curious to see what the investigation will reveal.

Apparently it stemmed from a traffic-related argument between a driver and people on electric scooters.
Yeah. Montreal and Quebec police have a pretty good track record of stomping out the bad guys (mafia, biker gangs) when they've overstepped the boundaries in the past. Even if it sometimes meant cutting a few corners here and there (wink wink).
Of course those were different eras so we'll see how it goes.
The current mayor is not exactly a tough on crime type and while not a "hug a thug" politician is more understanding and conciliatory, à la awww this poor troubled soul had to shoot five people because he was misunderstood in his childhood.
Though there are other factors at play like the Quebec government which is a "père de famille" government that probably won't hesitate to get tough on crime if it feels it's necessary, and has a lot of authority over cities and municipal police.
This is also a municipal election year in Montreal.
