along the midtown stretch of the East River,
One Vandy is extremely dominant . . thank God . .
they've added a lot of glass up top in the last 2 months,
when they shouldn't have been working at all,
due to the covid shutdown . .
wonderful vision to see . .

i am more concerned and pleased with the amazing base of it and the giguntic restaurant and the observation views to be, rather than the height.

it should end up being a very useful and well trod building for the public.

I wonder if the construction team is still ahead of schedule. Progress seems to have slowed quite a bit, for obvious reasons.

They've stated they were ahead of schedule.

As for standing out, it's a brand new 1,400 ft building that should stand out. But those other new towers of the same height or greater complicate things. In a good way though.
Imagine if this tower stood in Queens. Even 9 Dekalb, a tower that will dominate Brooklyn, would get lost in the Midtown mass.

But standing virtually next to Chrysler helps it to stand out more. And we've got a few more years before 270 Park, the Grand Hyatt Tower, and others reach the same height and more.

re ^^^Night pic:

If my hunch is right that there will be no lighting at the ob deck (or minimal at least), those times when it's closed will give the crown/spire duet the impression of floating in mid-air.

We aren't long from having the crown lit at night. It will be glorious. The deck itself won't open until next year, but in time, it will seem like it opened right after the 30 Hudson deck.
