The tallest stand alone garage in the Tampa region is either 14 or 15 floors... There are two more that are 10, but most of the rest are 8 or less.

Tampa has multiple garages that park over 1,000 cars, with the airport having the largest of course. There a total of 21,344 spaces in three garages, with the largest holding over 11,000 cars. That garage is currently under an expansion as well, which will add yet another 5,668 spaces, bringing the overall total to nearly 27,000.

Is the valet parking only thing a post 9/11 thing?

I visited friends back in the late 70's who lived in one of the buildings. I distinctly remember all of us getting into their Volvo on a icy January evening and driving out of the garage sans valet.

Sorry Guys, but the tallest stand alone parking garages are not in the USA, not even Japan or Germany, but in Brazil!!!
They are Automatic Parking Towers built by a brazilian elevator company called Atlas (Now part of Schindler Grup) during the 60's and 70's. Most of them have more than 20 stories and some of them more than 35!!! and are still in use.

you'll find some pictures here :

Thumbs up 14 story parking deck

I decided a great hobby would be to visit big cities and take pictures from big parking decks... We started in Little Rock Arkansas, 7 stories woo hoo... Then in Houston Tx we found one that had 14... Cool, wish I had a bike! Great views! We're in Chicago now and found a 13 story but the views were not so good. We saw the Marina deck but they won't let us up there. Can someone help me to the next extreme.

One thing flat-landers need to understand about this. Many of these parking garages (at least in Chicago) are laid out topologically as double-helixes, so for every 1 "loop" down the ramp, you are actually descending 2 floor levels. And the bottom 2 or 3 floors are usually a straight ramp or something else, so worst case is you drive 8 or 9 times 360-degree loops - not so bad. (Fun, actually, unless it's rush hour.)

Fort Worth has one with 15 levels. The tallest one in Austin that I know of is 11 floors and about 125 feet, but there's one planned to go along with a project that would have 12 levels.

The parking garage section of the Frost Bank Tower which is inside the podium, is about 135 feet. But it's part of the building itself, so I wouldn't count it.

Austin's black glass and steel Bank of America Center, also has 7 levels of parking inside of the tower. You'd never guess it by looking at it as the facade is the same from top to bottom. And the main entrance of the building shows no signs of a parking garage, in fact, there's retail on two sides of the building that face the street. The entrance to the garage is on the end of the building on the other side.

The photo below shows the tower with the parking levels. You can see cars parked inside. Notice that there's no apparent garage entrance, except on the left side (north) of the building.

but that's not how marina city's spiral ramps work, it's one continuous helix from the ground up to the 19th level. however, no one other than valets are allowed to drive on the ramp, so all of these people who think it would be annoying to drive up and down the ramp everyday to park and retrieve their car don't know what they're talking about.

The World's Tallest Parking Garage?

An amazingly detailed 45-gigapixel panoramic shot of Dubai reveals what looks to be a yellow Ferrari sitting on a terrace of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. At 615 meters up, it's likely now the world's tallest parking garage.

That's crazy.

This whole thread is pretty impressive, actually. I never knew that parking structures with car elevators existed until now.

I told them they should leave it like that as art.

Looking at that first pic, I am suprised at how far away from the building the debris flew.

I'm sorry for the old thread bump from a newb, but I have a question that pertains to this.

Does anybody know where exactly this is? I need an address. All that I know is that it's somewhere in Mexico City.

Cincinnati's Carew Tower Complex originally had three towers, one of which was a fully automated, 27 story parking garage and about 342 feet tall. It was the rectangular tower on the right side of the postcard (you can only see the edge, but it was roughly the same shape as the hotel portion which you can clearly see). It's unanticipated demolition occured in the late 80s due to the construction of Tower Place mall.
