Yet more evidence that the demand is there for office space in SF and spec buildings like Oceanwide Center probably have little to worry about:

Dropbox signs biggest lease in San Francisco history
BY BROCK KEELING

. . . Dropbox signed a lease this week for a whopping 736,000-square-foot office complex under construction in Mission Bay . . . .

This makes it the single largest lease in San Francisco history. According to San Francisco Business Times, the new complex, a $570-million affair, consists of four buildings located at 1800 Owens.

“The space will represent an expansion for Dropbox, which occupies 182,000 square feet at 333 Brannan St., a building Kilroy also owns, as well as 115,000 square feet at 345 Brannan,” reports the San Francisco Chronicle. “Dropbox currently has about 1,500 employees and 102 job openings in San Francisco.”

. . . the company will now get more amenities, like higher ceilings, more open-floor plans, and rooftop decks galore.

Dropboxers will begin to move in late 2018.

I must say I find Mission Bay a confusing warren of development and have no idea where this building actually is. Perhaps if somebody has a postabe map handy and a way to point it out?

How much more interesting Mission Bay would be if it were a warren rather than inhuman superblocks.

^If the mass of the buildings in Mission Bay were taken vertical instead of horizontal (thin, tall buildings) then it would have been an awesome urban neighborhood.

After years of opposition, 2000 Bryant aka the "Beast on Bryant", has finally begun:

One of the Mission district's largest housing projects has started construction after surviving neighborhood opposition.

Developer Nick Podell Co.'s 2000-2070 Bryant St. will add 194 apartments, replacing existing commercial buildings. Demolition work is underway and building permits have been issued.

They don't have a building permit; they have a "site permit". They have just filed the addenda, which can take several months for approval.

I figured that meant all permits were in place. Good to know.

i posted this shot under the salesforce tower thread... but i figured it belongs here.

our partially complete new skyline - in my opinion the biggest change in a significant north american skyline in 20 or 30 years - and it's not done yet. parcel f, park tower, 50 first, and block 8 will all add more height and density to the southern half. then it probably won't change much for another 20 years.

for the photography heads, this is very small version of a 6 frame vertical pano taken with the new nikon d850. it's 23,200 pixels wide in original form.

here's 100% pixels - unfortunately it's not SUPER sharp at this scale, thanks to poor shot discipline and hazy skies from the fires... but for those of you looking at this on non-retina displays, at this pixel pitch the image would be about 10 feet wide.

The Chase Arena

Construction of the Chase Arena has broken the skyline in the view from my apartment (telephoto, cropped picture here). I now have an idea as to how much this thing will be in my view.

(The owners of the Fox Plaza ripped up the red brick in the plaza and (drum roll) replaced them with grey concrete. The building is divided into two sections and is owned by two corporations).

Long-stalled Mission Bay Marriott hotel kicked back into gear

By Katie Burke – Food/Hospitality/Retail Reporter, San Francisco Business Times
Oct 23, 2017, 1:25pm PDT Updated 3 hours ago
The 250-room Mission Bay hotel was originally scheduled to be open by now, but after hitting the pause button, developers are finally moving ahead.

San Francisco-based Stanford Hotel's Marriott (NASDAQ: MAR) San Francisco SoMA Hotel is now working to get additional building permits . . . . The project was initially slated to be delivered in 2016, but an associate with the developer said the Marriott is now expected to be completed in 2019.

City permits filed a couple of years ago show the project is estimated to cost nearly $64 million, although that figure could have risen since then.

The team for the 16-story project includes local architecture firm Hornberger + Worstell as well as McCarthy Building Co. as the general contractor. It will be the first hotel in the southern side of Mission Bay. Hotel Via, in the northern portion of Mission Bay, was completed this past summer . . . .

Mark Hornberger of Hornberger + Worstell previously told the San Francisco Business Times that the future Marriott will include a "community living room" on the ground floor — a 700-square-foot public space where people can "come in and have coffee and enjoy artwork." There will be also be another public space at the rooftop of the hotel, which will include a glass-enclosed rooftop bar and cafe area, as well as a paved, uncovered space . . . .

San Francisco's Tenderloin To Get More Workforce Housing April 05, 2017 Julie Littman, Bisnow Bay Area

Forge Land Co. plans to break ground on 231 units of workforce housing in the Tenderloin by year’s end. The prefabricated project will be split into two buildings: TL 361, built on 361 Turk, and TL 145, built at 145 Levenworth. It will provide a co-living environment for people earning less than $80K/year with no government assistance. Affordable housing reaching 40% area median income also will be available. The prefabricated building will provide spaces of 250 SF up to 440 SF with shared community spaces on each floor. These spaces may include a yoga room, a theater and a shared kitchen/dining area . . . . the company is looking to do at least two more in the city.

Read more at: https://www.bisnow.com/san-francisco...medium=Browser

Once they were called "tenements" but maybe they are an idea that never should have gone out of fashion.

Incidentally, that sylvan setting out the window of this "Tenderloin" unit is sure odd.

Real demolition work has started on the old Goodwill site at Mission x S. Van Ness. the store/parking lot are totally fenced off and it appears that they started knocking the building down yesterday.

the other building with the offices/clock tower are not fenced off yet.
