Fantastic updates all around Solar.

Question about the yellow protective cage. Why does only a portion of the building get a protective cage? If anyone has a link or any information on how these systems work and what they are for specifically I'd appreciate it.

They keep stuff (including workers) from falling on the pedestrians or cars below.

From this excellent photo thread here:

Gr333n dominates the foreground of this view from Chicago Ave. That Fulton Market tower cluster there will be making a huge difference to the approach into downtown.

^Density-wise, yes! Height-wise, not so much. WPS, 110 Wacker, and BMO Tower will certainly make an impact on the skyline.

I'm really excited to see that corner of FM developed with all those office buildings especially both of the SOM towers.

A little bird told me that plans are coming together for one of the worst lots in the city, bounded by Rush/Illinois/Wabash/Hubbard. Preliminary plans about 55 stories. Anticipated start date mid-late next year. Eventually two towers, but tower #2 plans aren't as far along.

Let’s hope your “little bird” doesn’t crash into a skyscraper and get splattered

That Macerich site is finally getting some love. Interesting that they plan two towers. I think I would rather see just one big one.

Google Streetview

This is the site of the upper level pedestrian bridge which I think the city wants to keep. And it is the last block of a 2 level Wabash street. Lots of access. Didnt this have a proposal for a much larger building at one time?

I was hoping for something bigger than 55 stories since this is one of the largest lots literally one block from Michigan avenue... this was at one was point part of the realtors buildings larger plan of demolition and having a large "rockerfeller center" type building at this site but that obviously was scrapped.

Hopefully, the concept of an integrated upper-level plaza isn't scrapped but enhanced given the site screams for pedestrian connectivity between Michigan and Wabash.

I'd like to see thin towers with relatively small footprints ideally and I really care little about height here. Trump Tower is only a few feet away anyway. Far more important is well integrated and thoughtful design on the ground to extend the Michigan Ave experience over to the west a bit. Would love to see the Nordstroms building get replaced but that is a long shot. Hope we see renders soon.

^^^ 845. It's a bit narrower E-W, but much longer N-S, so it wins out.
