Man, that Miami station...

The podium was cool enough, but those "fins" coming out to cantilever the tower?

Express train finally sets fare and debut date
BY MARTIN VASSOLO

Brightline, the private passenger rail service aiming to connect South Florida’s downtown areas with express service, announced fares starting at $10 per leg with a Saturday launch for service from Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach.

With plans to extend to downtown Miami in the coming months, the company hopes to become a legitimate alternative for South Florida commuters frustrated with gridlock on the highways or night-life revelers looking for a permanent, diesel-electric designated driver.

A one-way ride will cost $10 for Brightline’s basic “Smart” package and $15 for the more high-end “Select” package, featuring leather seats, free parking, free food, beverages and free premium guest lounge access. The five four-car train sets will each hold 240 people.

Initially, Brightline will offer 10 daily roundtrips on weekdays and nine on weekends, with service beginning as early as 6 a.m. and ending as late as 11 p.m.

The introductory fare is almost double the cost of a one-way weekday ticket on Tri-Rail over the same route. But Brightline promises a 35-minute nonstop ride between downtowns — about half the time of Tri-Rail’s multi-stop service.

^ I wish CalTrans would do something similar to Bightline on future runs here in California (maybe Siemens could add in there 2 cent since their plant is here)..

Yes, that's a problems! Too many people who being killed. No one ever see by those people who near the train tracks. They should keep it off the tracks. I think security guards will watch everyone who went on the tracks. They will be arrested for trespassing.

^ Well, these latest trains look decent.
I would buy them to replace our aging Intercités, those going to and coming from Normandy, looking miserable here.

They are a German design. There is a similar fleet in Austria.

So there is a slim chance that my job may take me to Florida at some point in the next year - potentially Orlando. So I've naturally been curious about the Brightline expansion up to Orlando. Is there any sort of target timeline for said expansion? I realize they literally just got started with current service.

Also unsure if Orlando is imminent. It's one idea of many relocation possibilities, some in Asia (where I currently am) and some in the U.S.

This train is truly a bizarre idea. If it were around in three years, I would be shocked.

Only way it survives is if Florida decides to subsidize it like it were public transportation.

The train service obviously bears a degree of responsibility. They're the one running trains on a line that has hundreds of street crossings, which we all know leads to multiple deaths.

Actual, functional public transit runs with limited/no such crossings. You can't have frequent service on a line with all these crossings and not expect deaths.
