Basically that the owners haven't filed any paperwork since 2017, so things have lapsed and the city closed the project.

Also, that the project was owned by the son of some wealthy Malaysian family, but that they've been having some internal family disputes lately

Usually procrastination pays off but perhaps not with this building....

Well it's not technically a supertall but would have been nice

We all knew that wasn't happening though considering there were never any real developers behind it.

I guess it could sell in the near future so someone else and something tall could be built there?

New site

I thought once the thread hit 500 pages, it would hit a fresh new thread? Aka Project Rundown 7.0

Changing the subject, what's the status of 520 Mateo? I know they were pushing dirt for it like a year ago, but then the whole scandal + COVID happened. I don't live in LA, so I can't check out the site myself, but is there any activity there?
I had a question why is Fig @ Pico 140m in your diagram? Did it get a height cut cause everything I've found says its still 161m.

Aka Figueroa Center, which was my favorite proposal and would've partly filled that large skyline gap from the common 'snowy mountain shot' camera angle. Of course it was a dud all along.

City Lights, Figueroa Center, and the LA Hotel Replacement, all thrown to the trash bin.

Regalian LLC's website (or lack thereof) made this pretty obvious all along.

That project was great though and hopefully something pretty tall goes there. I'm more upset about 333 Fig, LA needs a proper 1100 footer.

Anybody know what this will be? Haven't seen it on Urbanize or the Dev map. In chinatown across from Blossom and next to the Redcar dev.

I don't think LA needs any more super-talls, given the overall prominence of the skyline already, a bevy of 35-50 story towers spread out will do much more in terms of overall impact on DTLA area. I hope to see some unique building shapes in the future, kind of like London or Melbourne.

Ummmm no. If anything, LA needs 5 more with one of them being the new pinnacle of the skyline (~1300ft).

That's very unlikely given the current climate of people moving away from big cities and office towers phasing out a bit. I expect more moderate sized skyscrapers in the pipeline, most likely residential. Just what we need, no more height necessary.

U.S. Bank will be our top floor pinnacle for quite some time IMO.

Weren't the most recent supertall proposals residential? I can see a bevy of 35-50 stories being built, but I wouldn't be shocked to see another supertall. Yeah, it's less likely than before, but not unreasonable.

I think a 1250 footer (Empire State height) is possible, even likely by the 2028 Olympics. Hopefully a classy neo art deco (or neo gothic or modernist, whatever--I like deco best) mixed use project, with residential, retail and offices. Hopefully some good restaurants and an observation level, and an imposing spire. The ideal location would be near Pershing Square (hopefully revitalized) or perhaps along Broadway or along 7th. Of course a return to pre-pandemic "normalcy" would help get this done. I agree with you that an infill of shorter (20-50 story) buildings is also important to fill in the gaps and parking lots. But a couple of new "exclamation mark" quality supertalls or near supertalls too. Hopefully L.A. gets it's Empire State quality supertall, and fixes the homeless problem.
