Night clubs up and down the Strip, Xcess and Surrender at Wynn. Taos at the Venetian, and many others. It was, largely, the Baby Boom generation that fueled the explosion of casino's nationwide, and now that they're dying off....

Perhaps an Observation tower like they have in Toronto would be a better idea, or like the Stratosphere tower in Las Vegas. How about 1800 feet high! And!!! Have Calatrava design it!
Millennials sure gamble on stocks on Robinhood. But I see lots of younger people gambling at the Indian casinos ( or did before the pandemic)--not just the grannies at the slots. I think a large casino downtown could do YUGE business.

I'm a boomer, and hopefully will be around for a while. Would love to see the '28 Olympics--the '84s were great fun! The opening ceremonies were terrific, the great John Willams music, and all the pianos on the peristyle playing "Rhapsody in Blue".

I was at the 3000m race where Mary Decker tripped and fell. I didn't like the way the crowd blamed & booed Zola Budd for tripping Decker. Decker showed bad sportsmanship and all but blamed the barefoot Budd. Budd cried and probably cries still. She didn't mean to do that. I still feel bad about that. It would be a nice moment if Zola Budd and Mary Decker were invited to participate in the '28 Olympics opening ceremonies, shook hands and embraced and were cheered. Maybe they could pass the torch to each other at the Olympic flame lighting ceremony, or even light the flame together. All's well that end's well.

Gehry's Grand looking good! The 64 floor Brookfield will really make a big impact too.

The Grand along with Times Mirror and the adjacent tower is going to really beef up this part of the skyline (which remains to be a steep cliff from Bunker Hill towers), also add smaller towers eventually connecting with city hall will complete the northern skyline slope bringing closure. Things are really shaping up, good times are coming.

Perla just revealed the new streetlights that will eventually cover the entire theater district of Broadway. Love these! They feel great and will definitely add a clean, elegant pedestrian environment

Love the choice of street lights! Reminds me a lot of the ones on the Colorado St bridge in Pasadena or on Myrtle Ave in Monrovia.

Now that the pandemic appears to be ebbing, the pedestrians should start reappearing. Let the second "Roaring '20s" start roaring. 2028 will be fun. In a way it was fortunate that L.A. got the '28 games, not the '24. DTLA should all come together by '28 and hopefully the homeless will be housed.

Elegant indeed. When will the remainder of the theatre district be retrofitted with the globe lights? Broadway could easily become LA’s “grandest” avenue in the years to come and deserves to be cleaned up.

I've gotten out of the cardio power walk habit in and around downtown since COVID. I need to get back into it NOW. So much progress going on downtown, and I have a lot of catching up to do. Nothing like experiencing all of the construction downtown in person.

Not sure when my 24-hour fitness is going to open up again. Those of you who are working out at the Gold's outdoors, what's it like?? Is parking an issue? Pro's and Con's please...

You beat me to this...this might be exciting to see if it looks even better than the renderings.

The outdoor Gold's at 7th & Fig gets crowded, especially during peak times (nothing changed here). It's nice though and I love working out under the skyscrapers from above the plaza. The parking garage can be confusing and in order to validate; one must go to the basement level where the gym is, but its fine and they give 2.5 hours validation. They do not allow personal bags on the floor and they must be left in a locker or in your car.

But the best part about it... especially to us skyscraper nerds... is we get to work out next to a Cesar Pelli designed building and watch TWO brand new high rises go up on opposite sides... as we are doing pull ups, squats, deadlifts and planks. That's a score for me!!!!!

I presume the rest of the streetscape improvements are attached to the Broadway streetcar project. Not sure the status on this. In the mean time, they are being put in piecemeal whenever there is a new project that refreshes the sidewalk and utilities. I would look for these one-offs to appear next in front of the Apple Flagship and across the street at Broadway Trade Center this year.

And here is the reason The Grand's height was downsized several years ago. Any higher and it would infringe on the backdrop view of City Hall from one of it's most iconic viewpoints, the enter-to-the-city-from-the-101-freeway front door. The developers initially proposed a taller 56 story building... then later downsized. From this very accessible view that millions of people travel every year, city hall is the welcome mat into downtown. Anything directly behind it will drown the sight of the ziggurat crown. At its current topped out height, The Grand sits underneath the crown.

As I was driving I just missed the exact view when the grand is directly behind City Hall
